Bariatric Buddy
I need a buddy
Hi there. You've come to the right spot. Lot's of potential buddy's here on this site. What can we do to help you at this point? How close is your surgery? Please don't overindulge at every meal (last supper) while waiting for your surgery. Your relationship with food will change after surgery, but the surgery is on your stomach, not your brain.
Come check out the board often, post replies, add comments, thoughts. The more you share, the more you will get out of this group. Hoping to get to know you better quickly. I had RNY about 3 months ago, still getting to know all about my new pouch, it's likes and dislikes. My body is so grateful that I went ahead and got the surgery. Knees are thankful for the less load to carry about.
Come to the chat session Monday evenings, 6 pm central. Entrance to the bariatric buddy chat is in the box to the right, above Patrece's photo. A small but growing group comes and goes during the chat time to get to know each others and share support. The session usually lasts about an hour or so as folks come and go during the time.
Take care in the meantime. Hugs, Kathy

hi vicki, my name is vickie. glad to have you with our family. i am 57 and my bmi is now 21.4 or so. it started out over 45. i had an open rny in january of this year. i know what you mean about the feelings of the last meal. believe me, it is not. after a while, at least for rny-ers, you can have good meals with some limitations on size and what the food is. i had filet mignon, about 3 tbls. of baked potatoe and 3 tbls of blackeyed peas for supper tonight. from what i hear, you will have different limitations on what you can eat with the gastric sleeve. the book for dummies about wls is very good and it goes over a lot of different things. feel free to let me know if i can help you. also, we have a chat session every monday at 6 eastern, (i can't remember the other time zones) in the bariatric buddy chat room. you can make friends there. just tell us about yourself on the board and let us know what we can do and you will have several buddies. good luck to you. vick
EXPERIENCE WITHOUT REFLECTION IS HOLLOW
Hi Vicki! Welcome to our group! You did indeed come to the right place for buddies. There aren't a lot of posts on the weekends, and it has been slower here during the week too than usual, but I think everyone is very busy with the upcoming holidays.
When is your surgery scheduled? I started at 270 lbs and a BMI of 43.5 I am now 161 with a BMI of 25.9. Just 7 more pounds and I will be at a normal BMI. I am one year and 4 3/4 months out from surgery, so my weight loss is now pretty slow going. But it is still going.
Don't feel like every meal is the last supper. With the sleeve, you will be able to still enjoy many foods, more than us with the RNY can. You will just eat less, but you shouldn't feel hungry even with the smaller amounts. Just remember it is impotant to eat slowly after wls, and to stop when satisfied. Don't wait until you feel FULL or overstuffed.. just satisfied. Replace your old friend (food) with a new one...crafting, reading, walking, coming here to our group, etc.. It is good to start preparing for these changes as soon as possible before surgery, so it is that much easier after.
I too have fibromialgia, with chronic fatigue syndrome. The fatigue isn't as bad as it was before surgery. For a while I thought the fatigue was gone altogether, but not completely, after all. But I feel so much better in more ways than I can begin to express. I am thankful every single day when I button and zip my new size 10 pants ... that I was able to have this surgery.
We are here.. just let us know how we can help.
hugs!

Lost 114 lbs. working on getting rid of a recent 10 lb regain...and WILL succeed!
I believe that your meeting is tonight. I will be there. Right now I am having to redo all my presurgery tests as my insurance will change on January 1 from Aetna( was going to have the banding) to United Health Care (now I can have the sleeve. The hopital has not been very helpful as they have a 90 day rule on all tests. Everything seems like a mountain to climb. Which is hard when you are heavy. I am 64 and feeling it. Was really up and ready until I found out Aetna required another 6 month diet before I could begin. United Health is a much kinder place. Right now can't even drink the protein shakes to cut my apetite which seems out of control. Frustrated at everything.

You will be home in plenty of time. The meeting is at 7 pm eastern time. 6 central, 5 mountain, 4 pacific.. so if you are on eastern time you'll make it for the 7 pm start.
I understand the frustrations you are feeling for having to go back through the tests. It seems there are always hoops to jump until you finally have the surgery. BUT know that it will be well worth it. I was 41 when I had my surgery and felt like I had to be 70. Hang in there gal! It won't be long, until it is all set up and on track and you will be joining us on the losers bench.
See you in chat this evening.
Hugs!

Welcome to the group, Vicki!
I know what you mean about every meal feeling like the last supper. But I have discovered that since surgery that many of the things I thought I would miss don't even taste good anymore.
I can only reiterate what the others have said; this is a great group and we will do whatever we can to support you.
