To me it means being able to let go of that terrible fear I have of ending up like my father- he died at 62 from complications of diabetes. He lost a leg, most of his vision, his kidney function, had several heart attacks, heart bypass surgery, became unable to drive, play his beloved guitar, or do much of anything else he loved. He became dependent on others for his personal care and hated that more than anything. My stepmother suffered a very similar fate and died suddenly while talking to a home health nurse who was at the house changing a bandage on her leg. I so wish both of them had had this surgery and they were here and healthy.
I can't change the past but I have finally accepted that losing this weight and keeping it off is not something I can do on my own, just as they were unable to. But with the help of this tool, I can reach my goal, be healthy, and avoid those devastating medical problems. Will life suddenly be perfect when I'm no longer obese? Of course not. But being happy is so much easier when you feel at ease in your own skin. You know that feeling where you feel as if you are bursting right out of your skin because you have been gaining again and you feel totally out of control? I want to never feel those feelings again!

I really want to thank each of you for replying to this, and sharing from a deep and personal level. It is so powerful to read all of these statements and thoughts. It will also be empowering to others *****ad these words. AND consider printing this out and reading it whenever you are feeling discouraged, or blah... it may just serve to be a great tool for you. To see all of the reasons you chose this and are on this journey. There will be days down the road where you need to be reminded of how you feel now. Days when you just don't want to get in that exercise or eat the right things...those are the days to reflect on these thoughts and purposes.

You are all an inspiration to me!
Thank you again for sharing!
Hugs,
Patrece
