I don't remember much about it, but there are the words 'biopsies taken' highlighted in my paperwork, with a star next to it. I have an appointment in a week to talk to my Dr. about the endoscopy, but I'm wondering why he would've taken a biopsy? Frankly, it's creeping me out. The whole thing was really hard on my husband too, poor baby. He's not very good at taking me places so I can be medically assaulted.
What was the reason for the endoscopy? I don't know if I missed a post of yours somewhere or if I am just loosing my marbles.. but didn't recall that you were having an endoscopy? Is this for pre-op testing stuff?
Yes..I hear you. The word biopsy is an intimidating one, just remember it is used to setect many things, not just the big nasty we associate it with.
PLEASE keep us updated as you hear back on this. meanwhile.. keeping you in my heart and prayers.

The endoscopy is a standard pre-op test my doctor does. I was scheduled for next week, but his office called on Thursday, with an opening on Friday, so I took it. I was just surprised that he took a biopsy, since trouble with my tummy is not something I've been having.
I have next week off, except for the Friday follow-up meeting with the doc, so I'm going to spend it at the ocean (pacific) with my sister; we're resting up for the holidays. Well, she is, I'm resting up for the two weeks of pre-op testing I have in December, and the 2 week fluids only fast he puts you on before your surgery. After he gets done with me, the Lap Band is going to seem like a breeze.
I hope your plans for plastic surgery are going well!! It'd be a nice thing to have for Christmas!

Hi Karen, having a biopsy during a gastroscopy, (or colonoscopy for the other end) is not unusual. They can use the tiny sample of tissue to check for conditions that they need to know about. So much better to be informed of the possibilities of later problems. Don't spend much energy fretting over this. One of the things they use the tissue for is to test for a specific ulcer posibility. That kind is treated with antibiotics and "all better". Have a great weekend, wish I was by the ocean for a week, or even a day. Enjoy for me too.
My hubby gets lost in medical mumbojumbo easily too. Heads up and have a great one. Hugs, Kathy.

Take me (in heart) to the Ocean with you. Ahhh how i love the ocean! Soooo therapeutic and soothing. I spent 3 days on the ocean front in early Oct in NC and i just wanted to stay there.. Maybe someday when i grow up, I can get an ocean front place... probably not.. but hey.. if you are gonna dream, may as well make it big right?!?!
Have fun and enjoy your visit with your sister and the soothing sounds and feel of the ocean!

Karen,
I had my endoscopy a couple of weeks ago by my surgeon. The nurse told me before hand during prep that the doctors (from my surgery center) often do a biopsy during the endoscopy. When he talked to me afterward he did indeed do a biopsy and also said I had a hiatal hernia and gastritis!!!???. I'm not sure what else he said, as I was a little groggy still, but that got my attention. I had pain a little like a sore throat but lower and on one side. I figured that must be from the biopsy. It went away after a couple of days. I won't see him and get more info until my appt. with him. That should be soon, I have my nutritionist consult Monday and that's the last of my appts. before seeing him! I hope for good news about a date soon.
Anyway, don't worry. I'm sure it is just standard procedure for your doctor just like it is for mine. Would have been nice of them to warn you in advance though!
Hugs,
Rhonda
