Bariatric Buddy
Saturday morning and words of encouragement.
I hope you all can take the day to do the things that you have been wanting and needing to do, but more than anything, just do one nice thing for yourself. Tell yourself how proud you are of all the effort you are putting into your life changing wls decision, and how far you have come. Even if you have not yet had your surgery, you have gone through alot to get to where you are now, and you are here, learning, giving and receiving support that is so vital to our successful journey.
If you are one who tends to give yourself a lot of negative thought...take today and try to turn those "talks" around. I like the comparrison of ....If you have a young baby, that is just learning to walk, when he falls down, do you tell him what a loser and failure he is... HECK NO! You tell him oopsy...help him back to his feet and encourage him to get right back to trying it again, and eventually he gets it and succeeds! Don't YOU deserve the same love and understanding as you are learning a whole new way of life in your wls journey? YES you do! Every little step, even if we stumble from time to time is one step closer to achieving our goals and reaching our mastery of this wls lifestyle. Rather than looking at our stumbles and fumbles as a failure.. look at them for what they are.. a stumbling block, and a learning tool to fall back on when we face the next similar stumbling block. Use these no so great moments to learn from for future use. Don't beat yourself up when you are not being "perfect". None of us are.. NONE of us.. and it is all about learning, and there is sooo much to learn and change, we must take it one step at a time and find the good in each situation, even the bad ones, have a positive side...they help us expand our experience and knowledge and move us to the next step more prepared.
Today give yourself some self love! Acknowledge your accomplishments and enjoy the fact that you really are moving forward and the stumbles just help us better prepare to move forward more informed.
Hugs to you all!

Wonderful post Patrece! I think very overweight people have a tendency to be super critical of themselves, especially women. We have tried and failed at WL so many times that we do often have a very negatice way of thinking about ourselves. I try to remind myself that I would never talk to my sister or my friend the way I talk to myself, and I should be just as loving and supportive to ME as I would be to THEM or any of my buddies here. We have all fought hard for many battles and now have found the tool that will help us win the war! I love the baby analagy and will remind myself of that when the self critisism starts to flow.
Hope you all did do something good for yourselves. I took your advice Patrece and bought "The Beck Diet Solution" today. It felt kinda funny buying a "diet" book since I'm having the surgery, but I understand this book is more about your mental and emotional changes needed to maintain weight lost through ANY program. I hope to start reading it tonight. Thanks for your help.
I hope all you buddies have a great day tomorrow.
Hugs,
Rhonda

Awesome Rhonda! I am so glad you found my post to be helpful and encouraging!
One thing I teach my coaching clients and work with them on alot, is the "inner workings" of this journey. It goes so much deeper than just diet exercise and weightloss. Those things are just scratching the surface of true success in this journey.
