Hi Everyone
I just wanted to take a minute to say hi and introduce myself. My name is Sarah, I am 29 yrs old and have dealt with weight issues my entire life. I am married, have a beautiful 8 month old son named Gage.
I had joined this site years ago when I first started researching gastric bypass but chickened out, now I am back again and very serious about it. I have exhausted every measure to try to lose weight and nothing is working. After my son was born it was like something kicked inside my head saying I don't want to be the fat mom sitting on the bench, I want to be the mom chasing my son at the playground, I want to live for him, I want to be healthy for him, also myself but he is a main drive with it all. After finding out I have a very unactive thyroid and PCOS I know it's nearly impossible for me to do this on my own.
I checked with my insurance to find out if they cover or not and what hte requirements are. I have Cigna insurance. They require 6 months of being seen by a dr with a monitored diet, proof of 2 years of being over weight and basically having the high BMI. My BMI is like 48 so no issues on that part. I went and attended a weight loss seminar with a surgeon to really get my information. Great seminar, loved the surgeon but come to find out he isn't in my network, boo hoo, I found another one just need to attend his seminar here probably next month.
I started seeing my dr for the 6 months observation, she had me do a sleep apnea study already just to be sure, waiting on the results of that, do a bunch of lab work this month to check on everything. \
So here starts my journey, if all goes well and smoothly I am hoping to have surgery by June 2010!
I look forward to getting to know you guys, be supportive and receive support as well!

Thank you everyone! Just wanted to find a place that people can relate and be supportive and I can be there for others too.
I look forward to getting to know everyone better as I go thru my process and watch everyone else go thru their process as well.
I haven't fully decided on which type of surgery but am learning more towards the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, still weighin all my options of which would benefit me most.
So just need to go thru all the "steps" so that insurance approves me, I have a doctor that knows the in's and out's of gastric bypass surgery and what to submit to surgery so that helps big time. Now just finding my surgeon!
