Lets share ideas... What is your all time favorite source of protein?

I have to admit that my favorite source of protein is a draw between 2 items. They are my favorites because I really enjoy the taste and because they are soooo simple to get in... no prep at all...
1. Cottage cheese
2. Activa yogurt (peach flavor light/ fat free)

Quick simple and tasty... and great sources of protein... I use them for breakfast sometimes, or as part of my lunch, or for a snack. I also enjoy cottage cheese on a bed of lettuce, or in the summer I LOVE fresh tomato slices, with cottage cheese on top of the slices..with just a bit of salt and pepper on top.

Lets keep this going to help each other with ideas on protein sources.

Still licking my spoon from a serving of cottage cheese and fruit.  It is so easy to prep.  Finished 2 large tubs last week.  Close second is turkey chili with shredded cheese melted on top.  Working on finding ways to include more meat products in the list.  Just keeping them moist enough so they slide down easily and don't get stuck.

This week enjoying leftover turkey with bottled gravy or with miracle whip, depends on hot or cold choice.

Another easy to prep favorite is fat free refried beans, melted cheese on top, then dressed with a dollop of greek yogurt and a little salsa.  All protein but the salsa.

I found these ideas on-line......may or may not be good ideas?  What do you think?

1.) Stuffed Tomatoes - Take one tomato, slice into quarters, and remove the seeds and juices. Stuff the inside of the tomato with cottage cheese and sprinkle with chopped turkey bacon.

2.) Mixed with garlic and herbs - A serving of cottage cheese, some chopped fresh herbs, and minced garlic combined together make a much spicier bowl of cottage cheese. The stronger flavors of the garlic and herbs make this recipe in particular a great one to use with low or no fat cottage cheese.

3.) Crab Quiche - Along with 1 cup cottage cheese, you'll need:

6 ounces king crab meat
1/2 pound fresh mushrooms, sliced
2 Tablespoons butter
4 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 drops hot pepper sauce
2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese

Sauté mushrooms in butter and drain crab meat. Set both aside. Combine eggs, sour cream, Parmesan cheese, flour, onion powder, salt, and hot pepper sauce in a blender. After those ingredients are mixed, add the crab meat, mushrooms and Monterey Jack cheese, folding the ingredients into the mix gently.

Pour quiche mix into 10 inch quiche mix and cook on 350 F for 45 minutes.

4.) With tuna - Instead of mayo, add cottage cheese to your tuna for a delicious tuna salad.

5.) Toasted - Stuff a pita bread pocket with cottage cheese, then place in the broiler. For extra flavor, add a sprinkle or two of cinnamon to the cottage cheese before placing into the pita.

6.) Cracker spread - Cottage cheese can be a great alternative to the higher fat, less healthy cracker toppings. Simply mix together a serving of cottage cheese, a tsp. black pepper, and ¼ tsp. garlic and spread on top of your favorite cracker.

7.) Substitute for sour cream - Combining low fat cottage cheese and low fat plain yogurt can make a healthier substitute for sour cream and is generally more appetizing than fat free sour cream. Use to top baked potatoes or any other dish that calls for sour cream.

8.) Smoothie - Sour cream isn't the only way that yogurt and cottage cheese can be combined. Adding equal parts low fat cottage cheese and low fat yogurt to fresh fruit and a cup of ice cubes makes for a delicious smoothie.

9.) Combined with fruit - Cottage cheese seems to go with practically any fruit, though peaches and cantaloupe are particularly tasty and healthy options.

10.) As a dip - Combine cottage cheese with lemon juice and fresh dill weed for a dipping mix for vegetables or chips.

Great ideas ladies!

Ummm yummy that stuffed tomato sounds delightfully yummy! But I have to wait for fresh tomato season, cuz the hot house ones just don't cut it for me....  But maybe this way they would taste much nicer!

Thanks for starting this thread.  It has been very helpful to hear new ideas.  I can't stand cottage cheese and am getting my protein from meat; mostly hot dogs which I know aren't very good for you but at least it's something.

I used to use this recipe when I was on Atkins and craving pancakes or french toast. Beat 1 small egg and add 1/4 cup cottage cheese. Mix well, add splenda and maple flavoring to your taste, mix again and then cook in a non-stick pan sprayed with butter flavored cooking spray. Flip much like you would a pancake til both sides are done. You can top with SF pancake syrup but I thought they were great plain. The recipe named them pancakes but the eggy taste  and the texture was more like french toast to me. Wouldn't these be okay after RNY?

My favorite salad is mixed lettuce with a chopped up boiled egg,  a TBSP Hormel 50% less fat real bacon bits, and LF shredded sharp cheddar cheese. Lots of protein and very good with FF ranch dressing!

Progresso veggie soup (the 0 point kind) mixed with 1/4 cup Morning Star Farm or Bocca crumbles tastes great and is very filling, not sure of the protein amount in the crumbles but lowcal and lowfat, and you're getting some protein in. Easy work lunch.

Zucchini lasagna- slice zucchini (peeled or not, as you prefer) horizontally in very thin slices.
Layer in baking pan with SF spaghetti sauce mixed with crumbles or LF ground turkey, mushrooms, and other veggies of your choice. Sprinkle layers with FF parmesan cheese and LF or FF cheddar. Add LF ricotta if you like. Bake until tender and bubbly. YUMMMM.

You know I haven't had surgery yet, so I'm not sure if these are doable after, but I sure hope so.

I'm trying to recall more of the recipes I relied on that year!

If its basically low carb and low fat...chances are its ok for us. Some recipes may reuire some tweaking for some of us depending upon what we can tolorate as well. Thanks for sharing...these sound great!

For the bacon in the salad, or in anything else, turkey bacon is a great option and actually tastes pretty darned good to me. In salads, can hardly tell the difference.

Now that I can have 20 g of carbs a day I fix 1/4 c. of Mother's Oats with 1/3 c. water. Microwave for 1 min. Add 1/3 c. cottage cheese, 1/3 c. blueberries, some splenda and milk or SF non dairy creamer (I like French vanilla). I used to eat this before surgery only in a much larger amount.

Also, I have been having trouble with chicken and or turkey. It is dry and the lumps get stuck no matter how much I chew. On several occassions I had to up chuck because of the stuck pain. Anyway, for lunch today I processed some in my hand held stick beater thing until it was small chunks. Stirred in some light Miracle Whip and put a spoonful on top of some sliced tomatoes. It was so good I ground up some more. Now I have a container in my refrigerator for quick meals.

Great idea with pulverizing the meat and adding something to help it slide down a bit easier!
