My name is Karen, I'm 44 years old and 260 pounds.  I started looking into Lap Band surgery when I saw an ad for a seminar by Dr.Oh at Franciscan Hospital.  I've done my psych eval, and my endoscopy was scheduled for this Friday, but got pushed back 3 weeks (arrrgh!).  I'm hoping to have a surgery date early in the new year, but of course it will have to wait on my doctor's letter and my insurance company.

It's interesting, it's like just knowing that I will be doing this has given me a whole different mind set.  I don't mind photographs anymore.  I can look at myself without dislike, which is very nice, and I feel free to do stuff, like belly dancing!  I'm really looking forward to being a slender adult for the first time in my life.  Never too late and all that.

Hi Karen,

I'm hoping to have my RNY in the New Year too, hopefully early February. I've got a my nutritionist consult and psych. eval. and then appt with surgeon and waiting for surgery date. It seems so far away and so near at the same time! I know what you mean-making this decision does something to your head, to the way you think, even before surgery! I too can't wait to be a slender adult. I was slim for about 5 minutes at age 19 after 6 months of a very low cal, low fat, low carb diet. This time will be much more rewarding and much longer lasting! We have a world ahead of us.
