hello All,

well I have done the surgery and I am Home. generally I just feel uncomfortable and I have no appetite. I am just trying to drink the protein shakes since that seems to be the most important. I have walked up the stairs and around my apartment. living on the third floor gives me every opportunity to workout. I have lost 6 or 7 lbs since the surgery and look forward to losing more. Hope my appetite returns soon. I do not have lots of pain just very moderate  which I am very happy about. My doctor does a lot to prevent prolonged pain with different medicines.

My kid does not understand why Mom is not herself but she is adjusting kissing me on my tummy to make it better. I broke down today and took some pain medication just wanted to retreat from the uncomfortable feeling. I am thinking about food not because I am hungry just what I am use to doing when I am bored. Making meals for my child having me thinking man I can eat that anymore. I keep trying to remind myself of the benefits of not eating such foods and the health that will follow if I keep to this new diet.

I have to do some more shopping to finds some decent protein shakes and get my vitamins for next week.

How old is your child? As you get to where you can eat solids again, it may be a very good idea to feed your child what you eat, for the most part. Will teach good eating habits early on and possibly help for a lifetime of good health and avoiding obesity, which is hereditary to some degree.

Sounds like the weight loss is going well. Congrats on that! Now, don't be looking for a return of the appetite too soon, that takes several months usually to return. Thats part of what helps us in the early months.

You may want to consider checking out unjury.com for protein. You can get 5 different flavors, but it is a powder you mix in to water, crystal ligh****er, skim milk etc. I like all but the strawberry sorbet. Too bad tho, strawberry is one of my favorite flavors but not in unjury protein..lol Not enough flavor to it for me.

Also check out www.bbvitamins.com they have bariatric vitamins and will send you a free sample packet  if you ask.

Congrats again, and good luck with everything.

Glad you are home and doing so well. I think the head hunger thing is probably the hardest part of this whole process. Even after our bodies are no longer capable of eating like we used to, that urge is STILL gonna be there. I hope it gets easier as time goes by. How about it guys? What has your experience been in dealing with the desire to eat  (especially what we can no longer have) that is still present after surgery? I'm thinking that old saying may help- "nothing tastes as good as being thin feels." Of course, you're not thin right off the bat, that takes months! Any advice or comments?

My baby is two and a half she is enjoying the sugar free jello with me and she like some of the soup. That is a great idea to have her eat health with me. I bough her some salad last week which she loves to eat so I definitely want to keep her from the woes of obesity.

What a precious age indeed! I am a grammy to two beautiful little ones, one is 3 (girl) one is 1 (boy). And I have another on the way, but a long ways off as my daughter is 6 weeks along.

This really is a most excellent time to start embedding those healthy choices in your childs life! So glad she will have the opportunity to escape the obesity battle. She will benefit too by going for walks with Mommy. What a wonderful gift you will be sharing with her!

Kathy gave you good ideas on avoiding the head hunger. I was pretty lucky in that I didn't even have head hunger until well after a year out, and even still now, at 1 year and a little over 3 months after it is minimal for me. Mostly when I am pms'ing. Don't allow head hunger to creep in and getcha...just find your favorite alternatives and "just say NO" to the head hunger. We are here to help you through!
Hugs!

Thanks everyone well My little one and I were doing vocabulary and she got up and said lets go run come on mommy lets go. SO we got up and walked down the stairs and around the apartment. I have my own mini personal trainer lol. I am keeping the head hunger at bay too. Just focusing on water and protein right now.

Congrats and welcome to the loser's bench.  You are right to work on getting the protein in at this time, also the fluids.  You got wonderful ideas from the others.  Love that your 2 year old is kissing your tummy to 'make it all better'.  Kids are great.

Time to find an alternative for those times when you are bored.  Get into the habit of doing something that is good for you instead of the eating.  Walk down the hall, start a hobby, do something with your child.  Enjoy this time with no appetite, use it do develop the good, healthy habits that will assure your success in the future.  If you need to do something, you can always come here to OH and read or write as an alternative to eating during boredom.

Best of luck finding the 'ideal' protein for you, sample several.  And always remember that you are doing great things to improve your and your child's health.  Hugs, Kathy
