Question
I'm now 5 weeks out and at the "semi-solid soft foods" stage. I see in my booklet that by around 6 mos out, my pouch will be about 6oz. What I'd like to know is what does that mean for you guys for meals? Is the estimate of a dessert plate accurate? Does hunger return at some point? Do you have to be wary of calories or just continue focusing on protein intake? I know it's a lot of questions but I'm just tryinjg to get a real idea of what the long-term will be. It was one thing reading and learning about what's what pre-op, another to be on the other side and trying to grasp what this all really interprets to.
Hey there.. There is alot to learn for certain!
One thing you may find helpful will be to adopt a salad sized (or desert) plate, and plan to use it for ever. Because even once you are a year out, most likely you are only supposed to eat 8 oz (1 cup) of food per sitting (meal). This is how we keep our intake in check so we do not regain...well one of the ways.
At 6 months out I was supposed to be at 4 oz (1/2 ciup) for me, this meant 1/4 or more cup of my protein food and then the rest veggies, or ..one veggie one whatever else it was I was eating. It is wise to star****ching the calorie intake after 6 months out, and as your portions go up. We never ever want to exceed 1200 calories. At 6 months it's closer to 800. But like anything, we are all a bit different in our caloric needs. Depends on activity level and intensity of activity as well. Do continue to focus on protein. you want at least 2/3 of your intake later to be protein then the other can be veggies and such. Rule of thumb...2 bites protein to 1 bite whatever else. (low carb low fat important too!)
Hope this helps you!
Hugs!
