Bariatric Buddy
Hello Everyone! I am Post-Op Now! :)
Hello Bariatric Buddies! I had my surgery (LRNY) on 11/3 and am finally getting on the computer today. To summarize....it wasn't as bad as I had feared. All the tips and suggestions from this site really helped a lot. In the weeks prior to surgery, I read as many of the boards as possible, copied what sounded like good ideas to me into a Word document, and then used that document to do my pre-op shopping, packing for the hospital, and just getting in the right frame of mind (the last one was the most important one!!). You all helped so much. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
I do have to tell you that on Monday, day before the surgery, I went through a couple of hours of thinking I would have to cancel the surgery. I ended up with an infected big toe from injurying it a few weeks earlier, and my surgeon almost canceled because of that infection. But, I pushed forward and refused to think negatively! I went to my PCP, got an x-ray, and ended up on a strong antibiotic. All along the way, I stayed in touch with the surgeon, and she finally felt comfortable that we had done everything to get it under control and make sure that it was not systemic or in the bone. Major phew! I kept saying to my PCP that it would just be too STUPID if the surgery got canceled due to a toe!! Ugh!
Pre-op stuff went well. And my surgeon said that the surgery itself went just fine. I did have to stay in recovery for a lot longer than I though due to some of my numbers being too high, but they were great in giving me the care that I needed. And my husband...I can't even begin to tell you how fabulous he was in being there for me and supporting me at each step of the way. And he is still being that way now that I am home.
The two hour drive home wasn't that fun with all that jostling around, but thanks to some extra pain killers, nausea medicine, and my comfy pillow clutched to my chest, I did alright. Came home Thursday and have had two pretty decent days. Oh there are some challenges....NOW I know why you all recommended having baby wipes on hand, and it has been tough reaching all the way around to use them well <<>>. But, that really has been my biggest challenge. I've has some headaches, but I take them as signs of being dehydrated and they usually go away with some extra sips.
So, I am home just taking it easy and remembering the 4 rules someone posted one day: 1) sip, sip, sip, 2) walk, walk, walk, 3) call the doctor immediately if something is wrong (I will for sure), and 4) never ever trusting a fart (that cracks me up but man oh man, it is sage advice!!). Thank you again for all the tips.
Hopefully, I will be on line each day now that I am home and back on the computer. But if not, please know that I am eternally grateful....and so excited about this road I am on. I know it's not all down hill, and that there will be ups and downs and bumps and ditches, but now that I am at least moving in the right direction, I am willing to do what it takes to remain so. :)
Be well!

Thank you everyone for your kind and motivating words! And yes, SeaQueen, I am feeling pretty proud of myself. Such a huge, huge step. And people who don't have to contemplate WLS have it all wrong when they say this is the easy way out. Man oh man, it absolutely is not!!! I know this is the first step in many more to come, but I am going to enjoy feeling so accomplished as long as it lasts! :)
Loving the feeling of pats on the back from others in my life...and loving my own personal pats on the back, too! Humble not, but what the heck! ;)
