Just wanted to let you all know that I have a Letter of Medical Necessity from my doctor. I also have a seminar to go to on the 17th of Novemeber (which is the first step in bariatric surgery in Maine). So I am hoping to have RNY (because they dont do DS in Maine) within 6 months to a year. Is that a realistic goal? I am hoping!!

You have every reason to be excited Jeanine.  I am rooting for you.  Praying that the time span is closer to the 6 months.  Several insurances require a 6 month supervised diet before approval.  The seminar is a standard starting point.

Go ahead and ask any questions as they arrise.  Hugs, Kathy

Depends on the insurance, any high bloodpressure, consider any ailments that you take medicines for, diabetes, arthritis, sleep apnea come to the top of my mind right now, maybe others will have good input.

I am going into the chat tonight and see if anyone can help me there. Also I have a message posted on the "Maine" board to see what the "locals" say.

Very good news! Several minor comorbidities may be accepted as well.. I know a friend of mine had nothing serious, but did have minor asthma, arthritis, depression and slightly high blood pressure. Look into it, either way I hope you don't have to wait too long!

Hugs,

It was great seeing you in chat this evening! Good luck with everything. It will all work out for the best.. you'll see. And I think 8 to 12 months may be more like it..But ya never know! Much of it depends upon the approval process and requirements pre-op
hugs!

RNY on 03/16/10 with
I to have to wait 6 months for surgery. This month puts me at the half way mark.
It really does go fast.  When others told me that it would fly by... I thought "yeah, right"... but it has!

I don't the other person's insurance company, but my insurance requires co-mobicidy(sp?) only up to a certain weight. Once you by pass that weight, no other "problems" are needed.
