Hello My name is Jeanine. I am 28 years old I weigh 259lbs and I am 5'0" in height...I am looking to have RNY or DS...I am not sure which yet. I have been overweight all my life and have finally decided to take a Huge step in weight loss instead of trying all the FAILED diets and clinics again!!  I am searching for a doctor and hoping that I get approved for surgery!! Thanks for reading! Have a Great Day!

Well Hi Jeanine, that was quick.  Ask away with the questions, If I don't know the answer, someone else may or we can point you the right direction to get the answers.

I am 8 weeks out from my RNY, can answer as much as I know about that.  Good luck in finding a doctor, look for one from a center for excellence.  Start going to support groups, another good place to ask questions.  Stop by chat on Monday evenings, 6 pm central, to visit with those of us from the bariatric buddy group that can make chat.

Start making positive changes in your behavior as you can, it makes the time after surgery much easier on you.

Take care and have a Grand Sunday.  Hugs, Kathy

Hi there :) Nice to have you in our little groups (which is getting bigger all the time) Good for you that you've decided to do something positive for yourself! I had the Realize Band operation on Aug 5th of this year and am so glad I did. My weight loss is a lot slower than RNY or DS but all in all I know I've made the right decision.

I can't wait to get to know you better...feel free to join in on any posts!

Hugs,

Welcome Jeanine! So nice to have you join us here!
Kudos to you for deciding to take control of your health and weight. The best advice I can give right now is to research research research and be well informed of the different procedures and which you feel will work best for you, and part of this is having a heart to heart with your surgeon when you find one. Good luck on getting approved. Sometimes it is a real battle, but stand strong and usually you will prevail. They may try to make it hard so you will give up..but don't let em do that to you! Hang tough!
Ask any questions you may have, and we'll do our best to answwer them or help you find the answers.

Hi Jeanine!  I am in the same boat.  I know which procedure I'm having, but I still have a ton of questions, and I'm sure many more will pop up along the way.  The message boards here have already been a great source of information!  I have even asked (what I thought to be) tough questions, only to have someone pop back with info or a link to info.

Good luck on your journey!
