Hi lovely ladies...(any gents here?)
Does anyone know any place on the web where I can get proper portion sizes for WLS patients? I mean, usually they recommend a cup of vegetables but that's just not gonna happen for us lol. I thought the doc had given me something but I can't seem to find it.

Thanks in advance everyone...hope you all had a great weekend! It's back to work for me tonight and I'm prepared with lots of healthy snacks in case I get hungry!

Hugs,

Hi Sukie,

Not sure on portion sizes for lap band.  I know the portions for RNY soon after surgery are 2-3 tablespoons or 1/4 cup of food per meal of solids or 1 cup of protein supplement such as protein shake.

Just found my list from the surgeon.
Tips for estimating portion size.  For the rest of your life, it will be important to keep in mind the serving size of foods and liquids.  To keep your stomach pouch from stretching, do not eat more than 3/4 cup of food or drink more than 1 cup of liquid at any one time.  Use your hand to estimate portion size.  Your fist equals 1 cup.  Your palm equals 3 ounces.  Your thumb equals 2 tablespoons, your thumb tip equals 1 teaspoon.

So glad to hear that you are preparing healthy snacks for taking to work.  Sleep well my friend, go to work well rested.  Hugs, Kathy

Okay I did some research for you. It is 4 oz for lap band. Do not exceed this amount per meal it says. Which is the equivalant to 1/2 cup). Anything more than that will result in slower or hampered weight loss.

So... Miss Sukie...you never shared what went on at the docs office Friday... Are you feeling better now?
Hugs!

Thanks guys, that's what I was thinking but for some reason I kept doubting myself. My Dr. keeps saying between 1/2 cup and a full cup and a full cup just seems like so much to eat in one sitting!

Patrece..thanks for reminding me, I did forget to tell you . My Doc pulled out 1/2 cc of saline and I feel 100% better. I still have that nice full feeling when I eat but at least now the only food that is bothering me is chicken, and that seems pretty normal. Plus I got to the 30 pounds lost mark, so I'm pretty happy!

Ok, I gotta get going and leave for work...thanks so much guys!
Hugs,

YW Sukie! Ohhh yeas, if you are eating soup or something very thin, your intake can go a little above the 1/2 cup, but only with those liquidy things.
Glad you are feeling better! I felt sooo bad for you! Congrats on the 30 lbs! Thats awesome!
Hugs!
