Frustrated!
Tomorrow will be 5 weeks since my surgery.
I did really well the first 4 weeks - lost about 31 pounds since surgery, for a total of 44 pounds lost.
BUT this past week has been krap - I've GAINED a pound!
What the hell?
Has anyone else experienced a plateau this soon after surgery?
I can't help but be upset and frustrated ... any suggestions? Words of wisdom? HELP!

Yup Kim, I did and still seem to be. This last 7-10 days I bounce up and down the same 2 pounds. I chalk mine up to starting back to work, starting strengthening exercises, filling the bowel up with contents. And my body adjusting to the changes. Selmer has let me know that some foods are better tolerated than others.
Just keep following your program, this will pass. Up your fluid intake, try increasing the protin per day. The tool is still in there, just continue to use it to your best ability. ((((((Hugs))))))))) Kathy

Ah sweetie! Most all of us experience this. Kathy just got done going through the plataue thing for several days. When I was 11 days out, I hit a plateau that went for 1 1/2 weeks. Don't worry...it is very very normal. It is also normal to be frustrated and scared by it too, but please take my word for it, it is very normal! Our bodies have to have time to adjust to and catch up with all of the changes it is going through.
Just be sure to get in plenty of water, if you don't your body hangs onto fluids and can cause you to gain water weight. Get PLENTY of protein. And get all of your meals in beginning with breakfast, within 30 minutes of waking up. This sets the tone for your bodies metabolism for the day. You may also try to change your activity routine a bit.. this can help spur the loss again too.
It will start coming off again...i promise! Relax and take a deep breath and let your body adjust for a bit. This isn't going to be the last plateau... they visit on and off throughout the journey. very few are lucky and do not get them. Just know it is a normal part of the wls adventure, and nothing you are doing wrong.
I have been working my hiney off the last 4 days, and i keep bouncing up and down by a lb or 2. I was at 166 and now am bouncing between that and 168, and am more active then I have been in a very long time...go figure! Just part of how it goes. I eat smart for the most part, and comply with nutritional supplements, so I know i'll be okay too.
GREAT BIG HUGS to YOU! I promise it is going to pick back up again!

kim, hang in there. plateaus are the name of the game. they will happen off and on throughout your journey. for me, i had to make sure i was eating enough. but you are too early out to have to worry about that. just make sure you get the liquids, supplements and proteins. all very life sustaining. good luck to you kim. vick
