Hi everyone :) I was just sitting here wondering if anyone here had any hobbies....or likes to collect things? Not sure why I'm wondering that lol. I like to do needle felting and wet felting...I'm going to add some pics to my profile.  I also collect all sorts of ephemera, but haven't yet found a good use for it lol.

So what do you like to do??? I'm nosey, please tell me lol.

Hugs,

Okay gal... called me dumb but... What is ephemera? And what is wet and needle felting??? I haven't ever heard of any of these things...lol I am so sheltered..

So for me here's my things I enjoy:
I love to make mosaics. I did a small table in a dragonfly design. I'll have to post a pic to show you. I also like to make things out of leather. I like to make dream catchers, I like to play with making glass beads and blowing glass, although I have never gotten too far with the glass blowing. need to take classes I think to learn to do all the fancy stuff with it. I like to make crafts out of stuff collected in nature... all kinds of stuff. The sad part is I never take the time to do any of it anymore. I really need to start again. I love crafting, it is medicine for my soul.

When I was in North Caroline, I actually spoke with a retailer that is interested in having me make and supply them with dream catchers and medicine bags, two of my favorite crafts. I need to get a couple of samples put together and get them sent out to them. I'd love to actually make some money on my play stuff.
Hugs back at ya! Hope you are feeling better.

Good topic Sukie.  I like to quilt and sew, just haven't had much time for either lately.  I bought myself a beginner quilting machine and table for my birthday last year.  Started practicing with it, then stopped and covered it up during a home renovation project.  We gutted and redid our kitchen.  The quilting machine is still under the sheets.  I plan to get back into that this winter.  I have several quilt tops sewed and just need to make the time to work on them.  Over the years, I have made many quilts that have been donated to mission.  Tied all those quilts with yarn. I have a stash of fabric, yarn and more ideas in my head than time.  Right now, i am getting ready to sew a few more t-shirts for myself.  My back is long enough that most of the ladies shirts are just a couple inches short.  I do not have the midriff for short tops.  To get the length I like, I have been buying men's t-shirts.  But the colors are not very feminine.

Our house was built in the 1940's and had the old tube and knob wiring.  I could only use 1 appliance at a time, kept blowing circuits.  Dennis gave me the go ahead to start demo on the kitchen and within the week, the whole thing was gutted to the studs.  Lots of trips to the demo dumpster out the back door.  Found out that there was no insulation in the house.  We live in northern MN.  No wonder it was so cold and cost so much to heat.  Hired the electric and drywall work done,  Did most of the rest myself.  Including installing the insulation.  We noticed a big difference in the warmth of the room last winter, and I can use as many appliances as I want.  We ended up with 6 inches of insulation in the walls and the kitchen is now cozy.  Love having more cupboards and counter top.  We moved the doorway to the kitchen, removed an unused chimney and added a window.  Looks fantastic.  I am fond of the knotty pine look.  One wall is knotty pine and feels like I live in a cabin.  My dad came, stayed and helped with quite a bit of the work, can't know what I would have done without his help.  Dennis would come home from work and help haul debris out to the dumpster.

Now I think I will head to the basement and see what I feel like trying to do.  My sewing and quilting things are down there.  Hugs, Kathy

Ok, for Patrece and anyone else I added some pics to my photobucket account with descriptions so you can see what felting is. I hope you can  understand them ok. Here's the link;

Please let me know if the link is working for you..and if the descriptions are clear.

I LOVE leather work! There is so much I want to try I just don't have the time! And I wish I could sew. I managed to sew myself a doll once, but it was very trying on my nerves and tons of curses flew that day, let me tell you.

Oh I also collect Cabbage Patch Kids....but  if you tell anyone I'm denying it! I started out collecting the mass market ones that everyone went gaga for in 1983. Now I only collect the handmade ones from www.cabbagepatchkids.com  I think I'm getting over that hobby/collection tho and have realized I'd rather spend the money on other things.

And what the heck? You did all the work  yourself Kathy? I'm hiring you next time I need some work done, that is so cool!

Ok now you all have to post some pics too, I'm  nosey and I'd love to see some of ur stuff!

Hugs,

Oh I almost forgot, ephemera is day to day paper we collect....like newspapers, cards, tickets. blah blah blah. I have a lot of vintage stuff like that such as magazines from the 50's, old playbills, old railway tickets. It doesn't take up too much space so that's my reason for keeping it, and for some reason I just think it's neat.

Cool stuff, I had heard of felting, not the wet felting.  You do nice work.  The lik worked great.  I see you like the twilight series too, in the background of your bucket.  Do you card your own wool?  Would you like some pomeranian fluff to play with, I can save the brushings from Oscar for you.  Cool black fluff.

Glad you answered the question about ephemera, I hadn't stopped to look up the word yet.  Sounds like fun.

Hi there Sukie!  Sometimes it is good to be nosy...lol  But just the same it is a good question, to be able to get to know the rest of us.
I like Kathy am a quilter, haven't had much time for it lately, but going to be picking it up soon again.  I enjoy sewing and most "crafty" type of things.  I make dream catchers, big and small, crochet, scrap booking, photography, and genealogy.
My one thing that I collect is frogs, they are my big down fall.
The felting you do is just awesome!  It would be cute as a frog... wish I knew how to do it!!

How kewl Sukie! Nice work! I LOVE the Bears! LOVE EM LOVE EM! The bowls are great too. I had never heard of or seen this, unless I saw it and did not know what I was looking at...which is possible.
Thanks for sharing your awesome talents with us. Thanks for starting this topic. It is great to see what everyone does. I am going to go put a pic of my mosaic dragonfly table on my profile pics, so you can see it if you'd like to.
I did a couple of quilts a long time ago. Am planning on making one again, but not until I go see Kathy, so she can hold my hand through the process! She makes beautiful quilts. She gave me one when she came here, and I love it.
Ok off to post the mosaic pic.

It was my own pattern and color scheme. I used tile snippers and cut the pieces to fit, and to the shape that I needed. A few of them I had to grind to get them shaped properly, but very few. This was my first mosaic project and I loved doing it. It was a challenge, but then that is part of what makes crafting fun!
Thanks for the compoliments! Glad you like it!
