i had surgery about 5weeks ago and have been dealing with serious nausea and vomiting about once a day for the past 1-1.5weeks.  is this normal and does anyone have any suggestions of how to deal with it?

Hi, You didn't say what kind of surgery did you have?  The nausea, anything related to it? Any particular food related?  I would contact your physican or nutritionist and talk with them.  Nausea is not normal and you need to find out why.  Vomiting is hard on your pouch and your body.  Are you separating liquids from your meal?  Chewing foods well, stopping before you are stuffed.

Call your MD and just talk to them.  Hope you are better very soon.

Take care of yourself.  Hugs, Kathy

If you had Roux en y (gastric bypass) you may well have a stricture coming about, but this is only a guess. I agree, need to talk to your surgeon. You are at great danger of dehydration, and the vomitting is hard on your pouch and suture lines. Please call your surgeon and follow up. Let us know how you are,. I'm sorry you are feeling so badly.

Def call ur doc and tell him what you are experiencing, even if you had the band your band could have slipped, if you had bypass other things as well, as Patrece said. Please see ur doc asap and let us know how you are!

i would agree with Patrece, you may have a stricture.. i "had" nausea and vomiting since Oct 4th and i was thinking maybe it was what i was eating/how i was eating. I kept going to ER and they just said it was nauseau (that i already knew) and prescribed me nausea meds. I finally (after pumping and priming from my OH family and my husband), i went to ER for the final time on Thursday 10/15. Luckily my surgeon came in that night. She decided to do an EGD.  And guess what-- It was a stricture!! Matter fact, my surgeon said it was a "tight" stricture..  I feel so relieved right now..

So yes, talk to your doc and demand an EGD or you will continue to get "nausea meds"  just like i did..

Hope things get better for you,
Flo

Flo, I am so glad you had it checked out and are better now.  Please listen to your body.  It really is telling you something.  So we had to prime you to go.  That is what ER is for.  Especially when attempts to get to the MD directly do not succees.  Most ER's do their best to get surgical patients in contact with their surgeon ASAP to see if there is a cause.  ((((((Hugs)))))))) Kathy

Kathy, I'm glad you all cared enough to prime me to go or I wouldve still been at home miserable. I will listen to my body for now on!
