Bariatric Buddy
Hi everyone (c:
I am new to this whole process. I went on Tuesday past and spoke with my family doctor for the first time regarding weight loss surgery. He is 100% behind me and has ordered a battery of blood tests (I did those on Wednesday) and is going to refer me to an endocrinologist and the sleep clinic for tests once he gets my blood test results. So as you can see, I am just starting this process and thought I should jump in with both feet and get some sort of supports in place. (btw spelling is not my strongest talent, so forgive any mistakes (c: )
I am 42, married and a mother of 2 children. My husband is my strength in daily life, I know I would be in much worse shape without him. My son is 16 and has Asperger's Syndrome and my daughter is 8 and has ADHD, bearing that in mind, I would not swap them out for the world despite the challenges. I myself have arthritis in my hips and lower back and have also been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, so needless to say, our house is not your conventional dynamic.
I have suffered with weight issues my entire life. I have yoyo dieted and even gone so far as to have bulimic tendencies as a young woman. I find now that mobility is the issue, along with the fact that my medications increase my appetite. It is a vicious circle of eating being limited in my movements, gaining weight, decreasing my movements and so it continues.
This decision has been many, many years in the making and I hope to chronicle each step here with you.
Do you know yet if your insurance will cover the surgery for you?
You are wise to start getting a good support system in place, and to learn all you can before you have your surgery. It can make a big difference in how you get through the process just knowing others can relate and care.
I too am 42, will be 43 the end of this month. My kids are 21 and 24. I have 2 adorable grandbabies, ages 3 and 1. They are the spice of my life! I am an LPN but am not familiar with Aspergers Syndrome. I will goodgle that to see what it is. I also have fibromyalgia with chronic fatigue syndrome. It is no fun. I am lucky in that I have no difficulty with mobility. Your difficulty will surely improve after you have surgery and get some of that excess weight off.
I look very forward to sharing in your journey with you! Congrats on your decision to take control of the weight that has been controlling you for so long. I know how it is.. believe me I do. Good luck in getting through the process smoothly and quickly, and jloining us here on the losers bench!

Lost 114 lbs. working on getting rid of a recent 10 lb regain...and WILL succeed!
I have had life long struggle with my weight, lack to support from family for previous successes in weight loss. I have been married for almost 1.75 years, Dennis, my husband does his best to be a good supporter, he is learning more each day, slowly. I have type 2 diabetes and am off insulin since surgery. Also working on resolving sleep apnea, high blood pressure and minimizing the effects of my arthritis. My knees took a beating from the years of obesity. I had laparoscopic RNY on 09/02/09, 6 weeks ago and am doing great at this point. Back to work tomorrow.
Looking forward to reading your posts and questions. What is your first name? Sometimes easy to tell from screen names, sometimes a little more difficult. Hugs, Kathy

EXPERIENCE WITHOUT REFLECTION IS HOLLOW
That being said, I'm currently in college studying Psychology and for the past 10 years I've worked with developmentally disabled adults and children as well, so if you need someone to vent to and just an ear to listen, feel free to send me a message any time! Right now I'm working with adutls and I have to say I miss the kids so much, they brought so much to my life that I'm trying to find a place to work with them again, but this economy is so difficult right now.
Good luck on your journey! And congratulations on taking that first step!
Hugs,
