Kind of bummed

Been a while since I last visited bariatric buddies and I have missed it.  A lot going on.  I had my RNY on September 17 and it did go well.  A week later my sister had back surgery and she has been flat on her back since then -- her surgery did not go well-- but she is getting around a little now.  I also found out from the echocardiagram that was done before my surgery--that nearly caused me a mental meltdown because I had trouble getting all the paperwork to get the surgery done on schedule-- that I may have mitral  and aortic valve regurgitation.  Could be serious, then again maybe not.  I see the cardiologist November 4.  I also am not losing wieght and am so down about that.  I have lost only 12 pounds  in the three and a half weeks since the surgery.  I feel like such a failure.  There are times I almost hope this heart thing will put me out of my misery.  Any ideas are welcome.  I am exercising, doing all that.  Worse than only 12 pounds in 3 1/2 weeks is that in the last ten days I haven't lost an ounce.  I shouldn't have hit a plateau this early on.  I have a follow up visit next week and I almost don't want to go.  I just don't know what to do.

Hey! So glad to hear from you. I have missed seeing you around here. I hit my first plateau at 11 days out, and didn't drop a ting for almost 2 weeks. It really isn't uncommon. Don't give up and do not feel like a failure. We all lose at different rates. My 2 biggest suggestions to you are to increase your fluid intake and to increase your protein. This can often help spur on the weight loss. As early out as you are, chances are your body needs more of both. Also make sure you are getting in all of the foods / meals you are supposed to. If you don't it will definately slow the loss. be sure carbs are not high. focus on protein strongly now.  Definately DO go to your follow up appointment. The doc may have a better idea on why your loss is a bit slow right now. (I am recalling you had RNY?) Your follow up appt's are very important right now.

I'm sorry to hear your sisters surgery did not go well. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us posted on your heart condition as well.. praying for you on that too.

Please don't feel like you are failing. And don't wish for your heart troubles to take you. You are going to lose this weight. It is so different for us all. We all lose at our own rate. And chances are after a plateau, which is absolutely possible this early out, as i had them too, you will lose again in a quicker spurt. Any day now you will see that scale make a jump down. you'll see. As i said, I had the same struggle with the plateaus. Some of us just lose in spurts like that.
Hugs and love to you. Please be sure tho that you do follow up with your doc. There could be another explaination that your doc can help you with better. I hope you will continue to reach out here. we all really do care about each other and want to be here for you!

Hi Kim (((((Hugs))))),

I want to do everything I can to get you out of this slump.  Everybody looses at different rates, I notice a drop of a couple pounds, then a few days go by and not much.  At 2-3 weeks out, I was dealing with major constipation.  No fun.  So sorry to hear of the heart issue.  Keeping you and you sister in my thoughts and prayers.

I have this saying here on my desk.  Borrowed it from a memo from someone at work, not exactly sure who to give credit to as the author.
The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything: they just make the best of everything they have.  Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain. I read this every time I need a little pick me up.  Let's dance in the rain together.

Please go to your follow up appointment, share your concerns.  The staff will guide you along the right path.  Please come to chat tomorrow evening if you can.  I plan to be there.  You can send me a note anytime, I will listen (read) and respond.  Is there a local support group you attend?  I have one here in northern MN and use the buddy site for my day to day needs.  We here on the buddies page are here for one another.  Keeping you in my thoughts.  Lots of warm hugs, Kathy
