Home and doing very well

Hey everyone!  Sorry for the late post (I came home Friday evening) but I spent Friday night passed out comfortably in bed and yesterday enjoying how I am feeling and with my nurse and then with my family.

My surgery went well!  I ended up (as expected) on a respirator and in ICU for two days so I didn't even know until Wednesday that I had a laproscopic procedure!  I slept most of Wednesday and Thurday and home on Friday.

They weighed me Thursday and I'm now down another 11+ pounds.  It's absolutely amazing to me.  I know I knew the numbers going into this but to actually see it and feel it are so different.  I can't believe how good I feel.  I take the vicodin basically before I lay down so it doesn't hurt rolling over in bed  but don't need it more than that.  I have 6 small incisions- and that's it!  Only the one where the drain was is still open, all the others are healed on the outside and not red at all.  I've had no issues with the clear diet at all.  I had jello yesterday and was amazed that 2 oz of jello really made me full.  Again- I knew it going in, but man... to feel FULL, not sickly stuffed, but really full is such a new thing!  The two week liquid diet had me prepared for not feeling hungry- this is different.  I actually do have an off switch, how about that?!

Thanks for all the well wishes :)  It's awesome being on the Loser's Bench!

No need for applogies, you are recovering from surgery.  Wow, on the respirator.  Do you have underlying breathing problems?  Congrats on the loss, you will do great.  Welcome to the never ending loser's bench.  Good team to join.

That feeling of being full, isn't it great.  I know the feeling for the first time in my life after my surgery.  And thanful that it takes so little to make me satisfied.

Are you able to get in any walking?  That was good for keeping me going during the early stages.  What am I talking about, I am still in the early stages myself.  Almost 6 weeks out from surgery.  YeeeHawwwww.

Take care of yourself, sip, protein, walk, deep breathe and rest.

Hugs, Kathy

I have COPD, yes.  I knew it was likely and let me tell you- if they advise you to work with an incentive spirometer or increse your vigilance on your meds or anything prior to surgery to minimize the chance of this happening, please do it!  It was incredibly scary being on the ventilator, coughing, and feeling like I couldn't breathe!

I will have a visiting nurse and physical therapy as I start on my journey, thankfully.  I have a multitude of medical issues and having the extra support and structured activity will help me a lot.  I am planning on getting to the point of being able to go to a gym and do walking on my own.  My first goal is to walk down the block and back with my walker.  I intend to work diligently to meet this goal quickly!

Hoping that your COPD improves and your other issues become less of issues with the weight loss.  Keep preaching the follow medical advice to everyone.  Keep the group up to date with your progress.  We are here to offer support and walk beside you during this adventure.  Good to have the assistance you need at home.  My hubby made a lousy nurse, then I knew that long before I had the surgery.  Sending best wishes and warm hugs your way, Kathy
