Hair Loss
OK, one of my questions on the Main Board was about hair loss. There was a posting about whether it was normal to lose hair about 4 months after surgery...that was a new side effect for me, hadn't hear that one before. One person even asked whether it was normal to lose pubic hair. Several responses was that yes, it was normal to lose hair any and everywhere. So, my question was when does it start to grow back??
Well, I was looking on another site and found a very detailed explanation for the loss and the time table for new growth. Thought I would share it with everyone here. :)

I feel I have learned so much about ,y upcoming surgery, but am amazed at how much more I am learning every day. With four weeks to go before my RNY, can I learn it all??? Hmmmm....

From what I have learned over the past few months is that your body pulls protein from your hair when there is not enough protein in your body.
The amount/ time/"recovery" is different for every person.
Some people take up to a year before they begin to lose hair.
My surgeon has assured me that he hasn't seen anyone completely bald from WLS yet, but you'll want to make sure you get your protein in.
The pubic thing.... I have to say.. I have not idea, but I wouldn't mind it! (hehehehe)

Everyone experiences this differently also. the hair loss is usually starting about 3 to 4 months out, and stops around 6 to 7 months out. BUT getting in enough protein helps reduce the hair loss. Some may occur even if you get plenty of protein, and this is often attributed to the after effects of anesthesia as well, but it is only mild hair loss from that typically. If you take Biotin, it will also help get and keep your hair healthy and fuller. I had a friend with very thin hair.. she did not have wls, but I suggested biotin to her and her hair is getting thicker.
Hope this helps!
I personally lost very very little hair. I only really noticed it in the drain after my showers and it wasn't much.

Biotin is in the area where you find all the other vitamins and minerals. It is very affordable too. No prescription needed!
