Bariatric Buddy
It's getting close!
Hello to all!
Well, I started my full liquid, pre-op diet today. I'm actually a day early but my food intake has been bad the last couple of days so I decided to give it an extra day. I'm going to copy what you did, Kathy and do a count-down to surgery with protein shakes. 3 a day times 7 is 21 shakes to go before surgery.
I went in for some pre-op blood work yesterday at the hospital. That was the only thing they had to do; my last EKG was in there and no other tests were needed. Although it's been a long time since I've had surgery, I've never had a reaction to anesthesia and am in pretty good health so I didn't have to meet with the anesthesiologist.
I got my CPAP machine last week so that is taken care of. The surgeon required that I have it in place before surgery. BTW, I HATE IT!!!!! I've slept like crap the last several nights.
I did what they suggested and bought sippy cups and baby spoons for the post-op diet. I ordered a 3 month supply of all but one of my vitamins and will get the remaining one sometime this week. I have one cannister of protein and will get one more this week also.
I have started getting a few things together for the hospital. I'm not taking much; just a toothbrush, toothpaste, hair brush, deodorant and couple of changes of underwear. I have a loose fitting pair of pants and shirt to wear there and home. My hubby bought me a new laptop to take as well.
Tonight I will be going to my first support group meeting and am looking forward to that. I do wish they met more often than once a month, though.
One thing I need to do that I have been putting off is going to the gym. I need to get my exercise routine (which I should be doing anyway, but haven't) in place and my measurements taken.
I can't think of anything else I need to do. I'm just into my count down now; 8 more days!

Way to go Collene! You sound alot like me, ready to stand up and take charge lol.
It took me about a week or so to get used to my cpap machine, and about a month of changing to get the right mask lol. But I have got it now, and can sleep all night with it on, except when allergies are driving me crazy! I woke the other night to find my face mask sitting on my forehead lol.
I need to get an exercise routine going myself, now that it is cooling off some and not so humid here. I did buy a new bicycle this month, and it is waiting on me to ride it lol. But at this time the tires get a lil squishy when I get on it, and the seat moves, I need to check air pressure and tighten seat up and just do the damn thing lol. Gotta wait til all this rain is over tho. It is still raining here, and going to do so til Saturday they say.
Have a wonderful day girl, I know you are excited, I will be too when I get my date.

Morning to you too Kathy, The not smoking is going, almost gone. I am down to just taking a puff or two and letting the rest burn up, on aprx. 3 ciggys a day. It is just something to hold I think, but it is steady dropping. The nic patches are still falling off. If I could get them to stay on... maybe I wouldnt even light the ciggys, n just hold them in my hand. I may have to try the duct tape thing to hold them on.
I have taken to munching a little more tho, good thing I have granola bars and wheat crackers as well as my yogurts to snack on.
I will be gone after 4 tomarrow for just a couple days this time tho, be back friday around 6. Have some dr and dentist apts to go to. Getting the rest of my bopttom teeth pulled Thursday, Hopefully my dentures will be in before long, getting a whole set this time. But at least I will have my current top ones til the new ones come in. Should be about 6 weeks.
It would be nice if I get my date in that time, that way I couldn't eat much but soft foods hehehe.
Have a wonderful day!

Now that is planning, love the thought process. Too bad the teeth have to go. Take it easy on the soft things after your teeth are removed. Hugs, Kathy

Linda,
I am most definitely a "take charge" type! LOL! I have probably driven them all crazy at the surgeon's office but I have done my best to stay on top of everything, following up, and if necessary, hand delivering reports.
I am committing to getting to the gym tomorrow to get my work-out routine set up and my measurements taken. I would love to buy a bicycle but I have vertigo and would need a 3 wheeler. If it were earlier in the summer I would do it, but we are so close to snow weather I'm not sure if I want to put the money out this year or wait until the spring.

Hi Colleen, we will count shakes with you, least I can do. Keep trying with the cpap machine.
I too wish my support group met more than once a month, I get my daily fix right here with my buddies. It is so great to have a close group to lean on.
Pack a tube of lip balm and slip on slippers, I had the hardest time getting the hospital booties on my myself, I think they moved my feet farther away from my arms, lol, with the abdominal swelling, just hard to reach the feet.
