Bariatric Buddy
Hello
I wanted to say thank you to Vickie for the message I got about posting. I really do need to be active here, just as I am with the other groups I belong to. My biggest problem is that I am not getting notified about messages. One of my other groups is set up to send me an email when something is posted to the group. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if this group doesn't work like that. I need to get into the habit of checking in daily with the group.
Anyway, here is what is going on with me right now. I am scheduled for surgery on the 30th and getting very excited. I have been doing my preliminary shopping, getting the things I need for my pre and post op diet. My pre-op diet requirements are one week of full liquids and 24 hours the day before surgery on clear liquids only. I've been buying lots of broth, Crystal light, sugar free pudding, etc. One thing I haven't been doing very well with is getting in my protein shakes. I am supposed to be taking them now because I already have a protein deficiency but don't like having to choke them down because I can't stand the taste. I bought a really cheap one to try from Walmart and its pretty good and has a little more protein than the bariatric ones I've tried. I already have the vitamins I will be using selected and will purchase them next week. The prescriptions for my post-op pain meds and blood thinners are already on hold at the pharmacy and will call to get them filled next week. My sleep study and cpap trial are complete. I just need to make sure that the surgeon's office gets a copy of the report. I go in next Monday to meet with the anesthesiologist and have the rest of my labs done.
The only concern I have at the moment is a letter of support from my counselor that needs to be approved by the surgeon. I have bipolar disorder and although I passed my psych eval, the psychologist who interviewed me wrote in her report that she was approving me with the stipulation that I enter counseling. I don't have a problem with that at all and my insurance covers it. But I don't know what kind of "support" the surgeon wants and am worried that the wording isn't going to fly with him. The insurance specialist/coordinator at the office read through it and thought that it was appropriate, but the final say so is from the surgeon and he won't see it until he gets back into the office tomorrow. I know that if I need to have the letter re-written my therapist will do it, no problem. I just hate loose ends. I have been kind of nervous, like I'm waiting to have the rug pulled out from under me.
I have lost about 10 pounds in the last 3 weeks, so that is a good thing. I just cut out the junk food and am trying to stay away from refined sugar.
Well now that I have bored you all to death I'll shut up now!

Colleen, so good to see you back. Don't ever worry about boring us. We care so much about your and getting you as healthy as you can be. Sounds like things are in order for you to have the surgery done. YeeHawwww.
The board does not send out notifications of messages, but if you have your page set up to show messages from you and your friends, you will get a blurb of the message in that window. Ceck in at least daily, usually something going on. I'm off work till the end of the month and spending way too much time exploring on the computer.
I think most of us feel the same way about loose ends, they don't seem very loose from my perspective. Take a deep breath and just do something great for yourself today. Hope to see you in chat this evening. Hugs, Kathy

Hi Colleen - we have the same surgery date! I have to do two weeks of the pre-surgery liquid protein and bought my stuff this weekend. I'm hoping it will go OK.
I bookmarked this page and check it a couple of times a day. Nice group. We'll be on the losers bench together!
