Hi
I'm new to the group. I'm having surgery on 9/16/09. I'm getting anxious about it and thought talking with others that are experienced, would be helpful.
Any tips on getting ready for surgery ?

Hello! Welcome to our group! So glad to have you with us. This evening we are having a chat room get together at 7 pm eastern You just come here to our Bariatric Buddy group, then click on the chat link to the right of the screen. We have LOTS of folks who have JUST had surgery, and many soon to have surgery.

The best advice on getting ready for surgery is to make sure you have all of your vitmins and supplements and protein, and also enough food for the first week post-op, so you don't have to worry about running around to get em after surgery, when you won't feel up to it. Also start practicing eating slowly and chewing extra thotoughly. Start breaking any soda habits you may have, as you cannot have soda after surgery. If you drink coffee, start getting used to not using sugar in it, as sugar can and likely will make you dump, and that is an awfullllllll feeling.  Lastly, if you are not already, start incorperating walks into your daily life. This will help you get in the habit easier after surgery.

Again welcome to our group and I hope you can make it to our group chat this evening! Congrats on your upcoming surgery!

Glenise, welcome to our family.  you certainly are looking at your surgery pretty soon.  try to get stuff done around the house so you won't come home to chaos.  like patrece said, get ur vitamins, etc.  of course, my doc had a class the day before surgery and i got a box of goodies, including vitamins, protein drinks etc. u might call them and see if you will be getting something like that.  get yourself sleeveless (wife beater) men's t shirts that are long.  this will fit under ur binder and make it more comfortable. take it with u to the hospital and make sure it has been washed. i got a package of about 6 and i had to throw some away they were so yucky. they sure come in handy.  good luck to you. post a lot so we can get to know us. pm (personal message) me anytime u need help or just want to talk. this is a wonderful and scarey time. good luck. vick
