Hello Everyone, My name is Rita and I am new to everything. I am planning on having gastric bypass surgery. My paperwork has been submitted to my insurance company and I'm wating on a date!! There are lots of emotions right now, as I''m sure you all are aware of. From reading some of the posts here, it looks like I'm going to receive a lot of love and good advise.
I am a 9-1-1 dispatcher and several of my colleagues have had wls. So it's good that I have a lot of resources from which to pick.
Thank you for being here.

Rita

Welcome to Bariatric Buddies, I am Kathy and just had RNY (gastric bypass) on sept. 2.  Home from the hospital yesterday afternoon, oh so nice to be back home.  Still training my hubby on the whole process, his skull seems exceptionally thick when it comes to learning anything medical.  Football stats, he is right up there on top of things.  Heheheheh:)

I understand the emotions, you name it from excited to crying, been there in the last couple of months, right now, just relieve that surgery is done.  Post lots and hope to see you Monday evenings in live chat.

Hugs, Kathy

I had gastric banding one month ago and really got so much great advice and support, I don't think I could have made it through without the wonderful ppl on this board. The nervousness is so normal, but also think about EXCITING it is to be starting a whole new way  of life that will lead to a healthier YOU! I'm excited for you!

You have a wonderful and remarkable journey ahead of you Rita. There are a few frustrations from time to time, and some struggles along the way too, that what WE are here for, but for the most part, it is just an amazing journey! I had my RNY July 21st 2008. Am now down 98 lbs. Have 22 to go to reach my high end goal. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. No regrets here!

rita, welcome to our family. i hope u will get all the support that u need here.   i was really scared, happy, anxious, curious, excited, etc. etc, etc, etc,.  talk about an emotional high and even low at times.  i had my open rny done 1/22/09. i am down by about 130 lbs, this includes the weight i lost prior to the surgery (about 27 lbs).  i think i am still losing, but i can't say for sure. i am swollen right now. i had to have a hernia repaired so i had a tummy tuck at the same time and i weigh about the same as i did before this last surgery (i think they cut about 5-8 lbs of skin and fat off).  if i can ever be of assistance to you, feel free to pm me or just post and somebody will get with you.  you will never ask a question on this group and be ignored, we all care.  vick

Hi Rita, Welcome!  It is almost like riding on a rollar coaster . . . the wait till your actual surgery date is the giant hill in the begining of the ride (all kinds of excitement & fear of the unknown).  Then your surgery happens and the real ride begins.  This is a wonderful group.  I am glad you joined.  Good Luck!

Thanks to all of you for the wonderful welcomes! This has already become a wealth of information. Sometimes it's a little overwhelming, realizing that everyone's experience is different.
Thank you again, and I'm sure as I get closer to whatever my date will be, that the questions will start to spill.
