First day on Mushy food

Hi everyone, first day on mushy food.  I was glad for it to come around, but not quite sure of it all now.  I measure out the 2 ounces like the good doctor told me that I could have for a meal, and I am not able to eat it all, I get about an ounce and a little over down.  Has anyone else had this problem with doing the mushy food?  Anyone have any suggestions for things to eat to stay in the mushy part?  I so have a problem sometimes with certain texture of foods, and mushy just happens to be one of them.  I do try to put it out of my mind while trying to eat something that is not recognizable.

I had a big problem with the mushy food too. I just did my best. I tried apple butter with powdered milk in  it for protein or just plain. The apple butter had a stronger taste that I was dying for. Someone here also told me to try the cream of wheat like you would grits with a touch of butter and  salt and pepper, of course that only works if you LIKE grits lol. I did mashed bananas too, mashed potatoes and low fat gravy or even mashed taters from KFC with just a touch of gravy for taste.

Good luck, and try hanging in there...it does get better! GOod luck!

I never thought about eating cream of wheat.  I will have to try that, I don't like grits but I like my cream of wheat with out the sugar so I should be okay there.  Thanks for the good ideas, will try them.

I am suprised you doc has told you to eat 2 oz. Usually it is only one oz at this point. No matter how much is recommended tho, it is important for us to stop at the first sign of fullness, and NOT at stuffed.

Squish some cottage cheese with a fork, good protein content there. It is still one of my fav protein sources when I don't wanna cook. Or even for a quick breakfast. Yogurt with no chunks is another option...jus****ch the sugar content. Thin oatmeal, Baby food fruits and veggies if you can handle them, Sugar free pudding Some protein in this. But whatever you have if it does not have a decent amount of protein in it, add protein to it. You need it badly right now. Also refried beans thinned out a bit is good in protein content and is a mushy food. You can get fat free refried beans at walmart. Soft cooked scrambled eggs mushed with a fork and chewed to death is another option. Easy on peanut butter as it is HIGH in fat and carbs.

Hope some of these ideas help you!

My fav mushy food was fat free cottage cheese or ricotta with a tad of a low sugar spaghetti sauce sprinkled with a tad of Parmesan cheese (in soft food stage I also added low fat mozzarella)- tastes like lasagna I LIVED on this for a veryyyyy long time as I ate it during my pureed phase as i mushed it up well - and in the soft food stage - just got bigger curd cottage cheese, another smooshy/soft food I lived on was ricotta or cottage cheese mixed with 1 pureed strawberry added equal for a bit of sweetness- tastes similar to a strawberry short cake! Same thing with a small amount of sugar free orange jello- tastes like a orange dreamsicle! I still to this day will eat the cottage cheese with jello or strawberry as it does satisfy the sweet tooth we all still have!

You can mash up cauliflower just like you would mash up potatoes. Then I melt a little cheese on top.  It is very good.
