Had my first "fill" today

And it was less than fun. My doc told me the first one is usually the worst. Any other banders here with words of wisdom?  As soon as I started to heal I commented to my friends and family that my "port" felt like it was pretty deep and I wondered how the Dr was going to be able to reach it with a needle. Well today when I went for my fill the first thing the doc said was "Wow your port really healed deep." So while he was sticking me with a needle I had to do a situp and hold it ( I guess that made it easier for him to find the right spot) all the while he's poking and moving the needle around inside my stomach trying to find the right spot. Took about 3 minutes. So then he asks me to take a few mouthfulls of water to make sure the band is not too tight. Well gulp #1 goes down easily, gulp #2......not so much. It gets stuck and just sits there...and I start to feel like I'm going to puke, and then I get all dizzy and hot like I'm going to faint. Too many cc's saline in the band. So I lay back down for another 3 minutes of poking and prodding until he finds the port so he can take out some fluid and loosen it up. This time the water goes down and I'm done. After they make me lie down for another 15 minutes so they can be sure I'm not going to pass out.

Oh my, that was quite the ordeal. Please tell me the other fills aren't this bad. I have 5 tattoos and a few piercings so I'm sure I can make it thru if I have to, but it would be nice if the other fills were a bit easier!

But I'm home now and feeling better so YAY! Fill #1 down....I don't have to see him again for another month.

Hope everyone is having a great day and thanks for letting me share!
Hugs,

Wow Sukie... sounds like a nightmoare! I have never had the band, so I do not know how future fills will be. Too bad the port ended up so deep. Thats probably what made it worse than anything! I feel for you! I magine s you lose weight, the port will come closer to the surface. Might ask your doc about that!
Glad its all over with and you made it through without passing out or vomitting. The weight loss should pick up nicely for you now.
Big hugs!

So sorry that your first fill was not smooth and pain free.  Keep up the good work.  I am officially dead tired.  More another time.  Hugs, Kathy
