OK I have a fitness/exercise question,  what would you recommend for a person that barely makes it to the car to go anywhere.  I am in constant pain when ever I even stand for longer than 5 or 10 minutes ?? I have moderate to severe arthrits in both knees and I have swelling of unknown cause on both legs from the knee down.

any suggestions??

Jenn

Hi Jenn,

Found a site with seated exercises for arthritis.  May be a place to start.

I did similar exercises with a physical therapist when my knees were really bothering me last winter.  Made a big difference. Best of luck with starting out.  I know you can do it.

I have degenerative arthristis in both knees, back and neck.  It was suggested that I use water aerobics at a pool.  I joined LA fitness who has in indoor pool.

There are a couple of things that would be good options for you. Firs****er aerobics. It is very low impact, the water takes the weight off of your knee's. They also say that riding a stationary bike or a real bike doesn't have the impact of other aerobic activities. And lastly, You can sit in a comfortable chair, and do mostly upper body exercises. You can do your own, research some on the net, or even get DVD's for these. You can also do some leg movements as tolorated.

I had severe swelling in my lower legs before my surgery. When I was on my feet too long, they hurt so bad, but if I sat too long, they hurt so bad too. I did not have the arthritis tho. But another thing you may try is to just make a lap or 2 down a hallway in your home every hour or two. You'll be suprised that this can actually inprove the pain in your legs. Especially with athritis, you must use it or lose it. So do several tiny walks daily. they will add up to great results!
Best of luck to you. The key is just do not over do it!

I do some research tomorrow and see what else I can come up with for you.
Have a great day! Hugs!

Ok my activity for today consisted of walking to the mail box - walking back and forth to the bathroom - walking back and forth to the kitchen - walking back and forth to the front door to let the dogs out - Mondays are BAD days for me.. Home Work day, however today was worse than most as I did not get more than 3 hours of sleep due to extreemly bad AF cramps slept with heating pad all night - had to be up early for the WIAP appointment with my daughter and with the lack of sleep I have been Dragggggging big time today! Not making excuses for not excersising, just stating the facts.

Tomorrow WILL be a better day!!

Hugs
