I thought it would be a kewl idea to have a thread devoted to activity, exercise and fitness, that would not get buried under all the other posts. Maybe it can serve us as a motivator and inspire us as well. We can also use it to be held accountable if we want. DEven share ideas on alternative activity ideas. Want to post a challenge? Do it here! Lets make good use of this thread and get moving or keep moving to the best of each of our abilities!

Okay... so I am going to start this thread. This evening I walked 2.4 miles, It was not a slow and leisurly walk either, it was a nice brisk walk!  A friend of mine went with me on most of it and the time just flew by. We comitted to doing it again tomorrow evening at 6:30 pm again. (after our group chat). I will post my accomplishments for tomorrow evening, and let you all know if I followed through with it!

Hi Patrece, I am new to Bariatric Buddy and am trying to figure out how to introduce myself to the group and how I send messages etc. Could you help me. I just need to figure out the technical parts of this website ie: where to go, how to send msgs etc. Thank you so much.

Hey there. When you get to our bariatric buddy group, click on the link to the right that says discussions. Once on that page, you can read what others have written (you click on the topic you want to read, then after reading it there will be a reply button, if you want to comment on it.) If you want to start your own topic, at the top of the discussion page toward the left, there is a button that says new topic. Click that, then you can post your intro or whatever you have to say. when you are done click the submit buitton, and others will be able to read and reply to it.

Hope this helps you! Let me know if you are still having any trouble..ok?

Thanks for joining us! Merry Christmas!

I'm 17 days post op.  I've only had enough strength to walk a short distance (about 10 mins) 1x daily.  I'm supposed to be walking 4x daily.  One of my problems is where I live - there's snow on the ground so it isn't very inviting to be out in the cold plus concerns about slipping on the ice/snow and doing damage to my incisions.  Any suggestions?

Take several small walks inside your home. Just walk back and forth and back and forth. Anything is better than nothing. The walking helps eliminate that gas pressure from surgery, but also helps to prevent clotting, which is very important!

I can certainly identify with not wanting to be out there freezing, but more importantly risking a fall.
Another idea I have is to talk to your insurance company. Some cover gym or YMCA memberships. If you could get that covered, maybe you could just do a nice slow easy pace on a treadmill?

I agree with Patrece, small walks, indoors at first is great as long as your are moving.  I try to stay indoors walking during the winter months too.  I live north of Lake Superior in MN.  We have many months of winter each year.  I am sooooo ready for spring and long dog walks.

Will try that. I'm tired of winter too.  More snow expected today. YUK!

Good idea Patrece,  nice walk.  Looking forward to seeing your exercise for tomorrow.  I increased the speed on the treadmill to 3 mph.  Getting used to going a little faster.  I have been doing the fat burner program, 30 minutes and 378 calories used this evening.   Sweating up a storm while I exercised.
