Support person : Update
Hello everyone,
Just thought to leave you all a quick note to let you know. My sister is going to be my main support person. My mom was acceptable to the idea of my sister going with me. She said that she would probably just sit there with a worried look on her face and not remember anything about the information that we will get that day. MY mom agreed that MIchelle (my sis) would probably take notes about everything. So she is going to be in charge of watching my son, Michael. She will also be caring for him while I am in the hospital. She was not even aware that there was a 2 to 4 day hospital stay required. They will probably both be there for the day of the surgery if and when that is. I am sure that my neighbor can watching during that time and she knows who my mom is.
I know my mom agrees with this decision to have gastric by-pass surgery because about 6 months ago (when she had some money left from a small inheritance) she offered to get me a lapband, I told her know because I knew that it would actually get put on her credit cards. And I didn't her want her to do that.
Thank you all for your support during this brief crisis, and for being a sounding board to this decision.
Jenn

Yayyyy, so glad to hear that your support system is getting settled. This is what your friends at bariatric buddies are for. We all need the sounding board from time to time.
Just today, my hubby told me, you will lose enough with the liquid diet that you won't need the surgery. He just doesn't get it that I can't maintain forever on this diet without getting my tool to use to help me in portion control. Feels like I am knocking my head on a wall each time he comes up with comments like these.
Hugs, Kathy

Hi Kathy,
If those comments from your hubby bother you, you should have a serious talk with him. It sounds like he is proud that u are doing well on the liquid diet and to encourage you to keep with it, and it is his way of telling you that. Let him know that you need to have the surgery because otherwise it would just go back up again like everything else that you have tried.
I am proud of you for doing so well on the liquid diet. I think that that is going to be the hardest part for me, before i get the surgery. Especially since I have a kindergarten age son that needs to have his treat type things.
Good luck and Good job,
Jenn

Hi Jenn, I keep repeating the talk. It takes a while for things to really sink in with him, a long while. So he gets the same talk over and over. He dislikes to go to see medical people himself and is horrible afraid of needles and pain. I have talked him into attending some of my appointments and going to support meetings when his work schedule allows. And am so grateful that he agrees. He will be a good supporter, just has his own way of seeing the situation. He does not do well with changes in the usual routine. And I play with the routine on a daily basis.
The liquid diet isn't so bad. I went into it with the attitude that I can do anything to get the end result I want. The shakes are more filling than I anticipated when I started. I still go for my sf popsicles for the crunch factor. I am lucky, Dennis is independent enough in the kitchen that he won't starve cooking something for himself. Harder when you have to look after a young one. Thanks for the support. Hugs, Kathy

Oh Jenn, thats great news! I am so glad it all worked out for you! Glad you were able to get some support from your buddies here. I'm really happy for you, that it is all falling into place for you!
Kathy, Hang in there. You are just going to have to educate him on all of this, if he likes it or not. To think he would think you could go forever on liquids tells me you got a lot of teaching to do!
Hugs to you both!
