Cooking for others

Well, I thought I could fix supper for dad and my hubby.  Things were ok while I started the grill and put the foil packet of veggies on.  Put the meat on and handed the tongs over to my dad.  I developed a sudden urge to leave and go to the gym.  Smelled so good cooking.  Protein drink was good, just not able to chew it.  I even added chopped ice for texture.  Today is day 4 of my liquid diet.  Dad is headed home tomorrow.  Hubby can bachelor his own meals.  I see lots of fast food in his future.  The guys did look out for me.  The leftovers were put away, dishes in the dishwasher.  Evidence of cooking gone when I got back.  I have been going through the sugar free popsicles and various flavors of crystal light.  Jello and broth haven't sounded good today.  Instead of eating 500 calories, I burned them off at the gym.

You made a great choice, in handing off the tongs and hitting the gym! Just make sure you are getting in extra protein while on the liquids and working out. What I did was to mix vanilla protein into my orange crystal light, added lots of ice and took it with me. As I stayed hydrated, I also got my protein in, and it tastes like an orange creamsicle.

You are doing great! I am soooo proud of you and your efforts and discipline! Try a stick of gum (sugar free) when you really have the urge to chew. It helps!

How much have you lost since you started all this working out and liquids too on top of that now? I bet you are losing great! I know this time can get tough...but I know you well enough I think I can safely say, you are Tougher than this! You can do this! You are doing this! Great job!

Thanks Patrece, I wanted to have a nice meal for dad while he visited.  He was just fine with finishing the cooking. I could not have dissappeared as easily if we had gone out to eat.  I am not ready to go to a restaraunt and sip on water while others eat.  The windows were all open today, the odors were gone from the house too.

As far as the protein, I am getting almost 86 grams with the prescribed liquid diet (whi*****luded an extra scoop of protein powder)  Surgeons instruction to try for 60 gms a day.

I have chewed on my popsicles, they melt so fast in this hot weather.  I also bought one of those sno cone makers and sugar free snow cone topping, the watermelon is good.  And crunching on a hard candy, SF of course.  Not nuch of a gum person, too many hours in the dental chair over the years for cavity repair, I inherited the poor teeth.  More dental crowns than I care to admit to.

I think I am down about 10# so far.  Just following the orders.  Ready to succeed.  I did not lose much weight during the 6 months, 15# ,  so total 25#.

You are showing fortitude.  I am meeting with the surgeon on wednesday to set a date for the sugery.  I have really wondered about sticking to the protien drink thing when my husband and son are eating.  They can both fend for themselves in the kitchen and they are pretty aware of things involved with this surgery but my son can't seem to catch on to the habit of cleaning up after himself.  That will make things hard but I am still feeling good about it.

Nice to hear from you! It is a hard time, but it is one of the keys to your newfound health and life! When you struggle, just remember how important this is to you, and all you will gain (lose) as a result. Its not forever on the liquids, so try to keep that in mind too. Some days I just had to take naps to forget about wanting to eat. Also ask your husband to help you stay on top of having your son clean up after himself. That will take some difficulty off of you. I know I had to cook for my hubby, and then would serve him and run off to my room until he was done eating. LOL.

Congrats on your upcoming appointment and getting a date set! How exciting it gets once the date is set! Good luck with all. Keep us posted!

Hi there schmikam, nice to see new people adding to the threads.

My hubby is not good at cleanup, I have developed a somewhat blind eye until the counter is bad.  My dad us super at cleanup, then he has been on his own for the last 7 years.  We redid our kitchen a year ago, part of the remodel was adding a dishwasher, my husband has no experience in proper loading, he is learning.  He now knows what bottle of soap to use, where to put it and how to hit the start button.

Good luck with your son.  The diet is not so bad, I just should have let dad do all the cooking.  I do feel good after exercising.  I told my dad that any fresh fruit and veggies left in the fridge after this weekend are going home with him.  Hubby thinks pasta side dish is a veggie and doesn't do fesh veggies.

Hugs

I kow how you feel. I have 4 weeks of liquid protien shakes. A friend of mine told me to put some of my crystal lite in my shakes to jazz them up. I have chocolate shakes (i'm a chocolaholic) I use SF raspberry ice tea in them and boy it tastes great. you won't get bored as fast.

And I thought I had it bad with 3 weeks pre-op.  Nutritionist figured out how many boxes of Carnation instant breakfast I would need to get through the 3 weeks pre and 2 weeks post-op.  Came out to 22 boxes.  Good news I found them on sale this month.  Sale at the shelf of 78 cents off/box.   And this week the local store is giving coupons for $1.50 off on purchase of 3 boxes.  I got my 3, and went back for another 3.  Still have another coupon for the store.

Thanks for the suggestion.
