First Post Op Dr. Visit
OK, Tomorrow I go in for my first post op Dr. visit. I'm not nervous about the visit other than I have to take my two little ones along for the ride. They are 2 and 4 so any trip has the potential to be interesting. But, what has the most nervous is tomorrow I get to move onto solid foods. Although, part of me is jumping for joy the other part is scared that I am going to undo the weight loss that I have already accomplished. I know it's silly but that's what is rolling through my mind. Any thoughts or advice?
Good Luck at your visit tomorrow. You'll do great.
Do not let moving on to solids scare you. It is the progression we all make. A bit of advice, add new things gradually, so if something does not agree with you, you can identify what it is. Next...chew chew and chew some more. MEASURE your portions as instructed, and eat very slowly. Stop eating when you are satisfied. Do not eat until you feel stuffed, ever, Thats an important thing we must change after wls, so we don't stretch things out later down the road. When i first starting eating solids, I actually had times I was mid-chew, and had to spit out what I was chewing, because I'd get that too full feeling as I chewed, and refused to force that extra bite in when that feeling kicked in. If you eat too much, the feeling will be unmistakable, and you will learn to not push the limits. The solids are important so our bodies still feel confident it is being fed. Keeps us from going into starvation mode, which would definately slow the loss.
Be prepared too for the occassional plateau. it happens to all of us. I hit my first one at 3 weeks out and didn't move for a whole week. It is normal, and nothing to panic about. If you do hit a plateau, add an extra protein drink, this can help break it.
Let us know how the appt goes, kids and all...
Hugs!

Lost 114 lbs. working on getting rid of a recent 10 lb regain...and WILL succeed!
outside of what patrece said i can only add is to log everything you eat and add one new thing at a time. this way you will know what might not agree with you. also, do not drink 30 minutes before or after you eat . i chew gum after i eat to stinmulate the absorbtion process and to wrt my whistle. good luck to you. vick
EXPERIENCE WITHOUT REFLECTION IS HOLLOW
Thanks ladies! I did really good today. At dinner tonight I used a salad plate and still ended up giving some of mine to my son when he wanted more. I don't think I have ever done that. And my husband finished eating before I did, that has also never happened. I am excited to go the grocery store tomorrow.
Lol, I felt like I would be going places with toddlers for years! Including the Gyn! Now my boys are 11 and 9 (no more Gyn appts for them ) My surgery was Monday, so let me know how it continues as I will be ollowing in your foot steps. One things I am trying to remember is that this is a tool for long term weight loss and not to get stuck in each week's battle, but that is just me. Good luck and good job so far!
