Not doing so hot.
Hi everyone. It's only been 5 days since my surgery and today was the hardest day of all. I find myself getting more and more depressed every day, I'm beyond hungry all the time but when I try to drink I get a bloated feeling that makes me not want to drink at all. I was so hungry that last night I took a mouthfull of hamburger with tomato and pickles and chewed it up and then spit it out. I'm dying to taste something other than crap. If you have to chew your food until it's mush anyway than why do they put you on liquids and purees? I just want to taste something other than soup, cream of wheat...blah blah blah you ladies know the menu.
Please tell me this gets better. I'm tired of crying and feeling sorry for myself.
Also, how much should I be walking 4-5 days out from surgery? I can't do too much or I get really tired.
Ugh, I need advice, encouragement....and a steak!

Hey... Like we talked about in the chat, please call your doc tomorrow. One thing that can help with the need for taste is to suck on a dill sphere. It will get better. I promise it will. This early stage is very hard for all of us, but with the band you can tend to feel hungrier until you get your first fill. Also, make sure everything you eat and drink is taken in very very slowly. You are still healing from the surgery and if you get it in too fast, that will definately cause discomfort.
At this point, just take several TINY walks per day. I started out walking down to the end of my driveway and back once or twice depending on how I felt. Don't try too much at once. But do walk many times daily even for 2 to 3 minutes.
Keeping you in my prayers!
Hugs!
Let me know what the doc has to say!

Lost 114 lbs. working on getting rid of a recent 10 lb regain...and WILL succeed!
Sorry I didn;t catch your post earlier, had my own day. Nice to see a face to go with a name, cute pic.
I wish I was a wealth of information, just taking things as they go myself. When I need more zip in my soup, I add a few dashes of hot sauce(tobasco, etc.), really adds just the right thing to my wild rice recipe. I plan to use it when I am on the soups phase too. Sometimes just a flavor shock really helps the taste buds.
The combination of blah foods and blah feelings is no fun. Try some added flavors to see if it helps. Cinnamon in cereal, sugar free flavor syrups in whatever needs a kick. I would add garlic to potatoes. If I talk food anymore this minute, I will head to the fridge.
Write here again tommorrow and share how things are going. Hugs

The fourth and fifth day were the absolute worst for me. I was nauseated, I felt like I had a watermelon under my ribs, and I was exhausted! That was the day for me that I thought, what have I done. But, I woke up the next day and felt better and it's only gotten better since then. I am getting my energy back. Today I was able to pick up the house, set up a little birthday party and felt really good. The constant back pain that I had prior to surgery is going away.
As for the food. Well, I'm still in that boat with ya. I added some ketchup, salt, and pepper to my cream of wheat to make them more like grits. I even added some soy sauce to my cream of wheat. I was so tired of sweet! I found that tomato soup and pea soup are good. I have also eaten more yogurt in the past almost two weeks than I have in my entire life. Just keep telling yourself that this part is temporary. Your just passing through so you can get to the rest of your life.
I didn't really do a whole lot other than rest the first week and a half. The pain meds knocked me out. I would get up and shower and I would fix my own mushy stuff but other than that I rested. So I would say do try to over do it, if your tired let your body rest. Your still healing.

Thanks so much Wendi, you're right about the ribs part. A friend of mine is getting a band in a few weeks and I tried to tell her about the rib pain...it's almost as if someone grabbed your flesh under your ribs and pulled. That was the worse. But I'm feeling so much better today and yesterday!
