Question for those who are Post Op and Lost Weight
Ok this may sound like a personal question, and if you don't feel like answering me I understand. Or if you'd rather send me a personal msg I'd understand as well. I was wondering, for those of you who have lost a substantial amount of weight, do you have a lot of extra skin/ loose flaps? Like on your lower abdomen or under your arms? If you don't, how did you avoid it? Are there things I can do to decrease my chances of having a lot of extra skin?
Thanks in advance to anyone who answers me...this is something t hat is really troubling me lately with my surgery date quickly approaching.

I am not scheduled yet, but at a seminar I learned there are some exercises you can do, but the fact is everyone is different. Some have little sags, and there are some who were extremely obese like myself who had plastic surgery. And insurance paid it because of rashes and some sores they had from rubbing skin. dont let it trouble you too much, take it one step at a time, and get yourself healthy.
I hope this helps you.

I personally do not have the flabby skin too bad. I am lucky, but have always been muscular and I think that helps a bit. It depends on many things if this will happen with you or not. One, how firm or loose is your body now, how much you lose, how fast you lose, age, how long you have been morbidly obese, and more. We are all differnt, but we should expect to have the flabby skin, how much, we just don't know.
Exercise can definately help, but only to a degree. But the more exercise you get the better the chances the flaps will be as minimal as possible. Our skin is alot like worn out elastic. Once it is strected out too much for too long, it loses its ability to bounce back to its original condition.
I remember my biggest fear was that my face would age 10 years when I didn't have all that "filler" in there anymore. LOL...I personally would rather have some flabby skin and hide it with elastic undies and sleeves, than to still be super obese like I was. I feel and look so much better! My co morbidities have resolved and I can actively run and play with my grandbabies!!!!!
One day at a time sweetie! And from your ticker, you don't have too awful much to lose, so you may be pleasantly suprised! You will have some... we all do, but it could be quite minimal. We just dunno til we get there.
Just remember, either way, you are beautiful. We all are, in our ways. Never forget that!

Lost 114 lbs. working on getting rid of a recent 10 lb regain...and WILL succeed!
Sukie, i have a panni that hangs down some. i will be getting a tt this month or next. my arms hang down some, but not so bad i can't live with it. age is a big deal, i am 56 so my skin is just about stretched out. i would rather have the flabby skin than all that fat. i am like patrece, now i am healthier and can play with my grandkids. i can't run, because of my knees, but i can ride a bike and walk (to a certain extent). please don't let flabby skin be the deciding factor in whether or not you have the surgery. think of all things, good and bad, educate yourself and then make a decision. your health is the number one reason to have this surgery. take care of yourself. vick

Thanks everyone. I would never let the fear of lose skin stop me from having my Band, I know that at this point in my life the band is the best decision for me. I was just hoping to at least minimize the sag effect lol. But you're all right..better a little loose skin than all this fat!
