My Introduction
Hi there!
Let's see...I'm 31, married, I live in Pueblo and I'm a stay-at-home-mom to two amazing kiddos -- my daughter just turned 4 and my son is 16 months. Both kids are are on high-functioning end of the autism spectrum, and I'm crazy busy trying to keep up with all their meetings & therapies.
I've been considering WLS for awhile now, but when my weight hit 300 last year, I really started looking into it in earnest. After researching for awhile, I've chosen to have the Duodenal Switch. Since there are no surgeons in CO that perform the DS, I'm scheduled for a consult with Dr. Gary Anthone in Nebraska in early June. I hope to be "switched" before the end of the summer.
I'm glad to hear there will be a local support group in the near future, and I hope to be able to participate.
Thanks for starting this group, Patrece!

Thanks for sharing your information! Congratulations on your pending DS! I am so happy that you have joined my group. You are very welcome! I am thrilled to start this group and am very excited to get a local group started as well. I'd love for you to be a part of it!
I have a friend back in Ohio that has an autistic son. He is a teenager now. Once he was able to get into being taught with an approach that worked for him, he just absolutely excelled! I know the first few years were quite difficult for his Mom, but a lot of that difficulty was lack of good support and understanding and education for his mother.
Keep us posted on your surgery, and what the date will be when you get it!
Again, welcome!
