Bariatric Buddy
Welcome!
Hello Everyone,
My name is Deb. I am 51 yrs old and I have been overweight most of my life. I can exercise and eat right, I will loose some weight. Howeever the minute I stop it just piles back on. I have tried many, many diets and other stuff to loose weight. The only thing that lost weight was my pocketbook. I was debating 10 yrs ago to have the bypass surgery, however it just did not seem to be the time for me to consider. So, I tried on my own. I am happy to report in 10 yrs I have no gained 1 single pound. The sad news is I stayed the same.
I moved from IL to AR about 1.5 yrs ago. There was a gastric bypass seminar. My husband and I went to the seminar and questions in hand for the round table at the end. We were very impressed by Dr. Mark Gibbs and his surgery record. Dr. Gibbs has had no staple leaks and he was also very brutally honest during his seminar, which I appreciated.
My information has been faxed over to the insurance company and I should know by October 13, 2011 if I was approved. I submitted 10yrs of weight history, had my psych evaluation, dietician appt, and next week I will have my sleep study. Now, I shall have to wait to see if the insurance company will let me continue with the surgery to continue to become healthy and reach my goals of weight loss and lifestyle change for the better.
My goal after the surgery is to be the best I can be and be at my most healthy as I can be. I yr after my surgery I would like to continue our yearly hiking vacations, which I miss dearly, because of my weight, I was not able to walk or hike very far at all. I say 1 yr, because I do not know what I will be able to do. I would like to do some hiking sooner than 1 yr after the surgery.
I would like to find other WLS patients in Little Rock, AR, were I live, so we can make plans to get together to walk and exercise together and be mentors to each other. I know I will need help and inspiration during the 2 week liquid only diet before the surgery and for sure after the surgery.
Well, thats a little about me, looking forward to reading posts and being more involved with the boards and track my progress.
Ready for a new life,
Deb

Hi Deb....I'm Deb too.....your story sounds just like mine! I am not in Arkansas, I am in Virginia, but I hope that we can become good friends and share our weight loss....I am just getting started, I am 54 years old and 329 lbs. I am 5 ft, 7 ins. and that puts me in the really morbidly obese group, So.....I think I'll be part of this forum for a LOOOONG time. I did not get to be 329 lbs overnight so I can not expect to lose it all overnight either. A forum like this that can provide support and encouragement is just what I need. Hope to see you around! Deb
Hello everyone, My name is Debbie and I have just begun my weight loss journey today. I went to a seminar today and met with the surgeon who will do my surgery. I know that I have a very long way to go, but I don't want to go alone, so I hope to find a few upbeat, supportive friends who are like me (just starting out) or who have already had their surgery and can share thier experiences and knowledge with me.

Hello,
My name is Vicky. I am investigating WLS. Only way I successfully lost weight in the past was through diet pills. I tried Nutrisystem last year lost 20 pounds and then gained 30. At my heaviest now at the age of 54 with a bmi of 46. I started my 6 months pre op with a weight gain. My primary care is great but has no personal experience with weight issues. It was hard for her to see my weight gain. I needed more help so I made an appointment to see a nurse practitioner with expedience helping those seeking wls to set and achieve goals. I have been lurking in the back ground of this website for a few weeks reading and exploring various topics. Thanks to all of you for sharing your challenges and celebrations, as well as, all that goes into making such a difficult decision. I needed read it all. I needed to hear the pros and cons from individuals who had similar stories. I needed to take a realistic view of my situation and the options. I was dead set against anything but lap band but now I am going into to this with with an open but skeptical mindset so that I am able to make a lifestyle change so that I can be healthy.

Hi I'm Anna, I am currently attending the rest of my nutrition appointsments only 4 more to go. I have been looking through the before and ater photos and I must say every one looks amazing, happy, and healthy. I have had weight issues for most of my life there was a brief time where I was able to loose the weight by my self I went from 265 to 150 and was able to keep it off for about 3 years. I have 5 children, along with 5 pregnancies came back the pounds and made it even harder to loose. Now I am content with life my children are at the right age where they can help with things, my husband is very supportive of my wanting to have surgery to aid me in being more healthy and a better mother and wife. The thing is that I won't know if insurance is going to approve the surgery if I only just knew that they will approve it I would be more at ease. I look forward to chatting and advice from you all.
Welcome to the group. Come post an into as a thread below and share with others. Very few view the posts here in the welcome thread. Congrats on your wls.

Hello,
My name is Pete, new to the forum. I'm 39 (really, for 6 more weeks), and have been fighting with my weight all my life. You've all heard the story, I've tried everything; I've had some success, but nothing durable. I've been lurking around the subject of bariatric surgery for almost 10 years, but never comitted to anything. I'm remarried and have a beautiful wife and beautiful baby girl (5 months). I want to be there for my family. I dont want my daughter to put me in the ground until she's old herself. I want to be old enough to see my grandchildren. I want to live!
so ahh... yeah that's my story :) hello!
