Welcome!
Thank you, Kathy! I really appreciate the support -- you have no idea! As I type this, my husband is in the kitchen making lunch for the 4 of our 5 boys that are home (ages almost 19, 15, 11, almost 10, and 4). I doubt that I'll be able to get away with not making any food for the next 4.5 weeks ... but I will do my best. The smell is tempting enough! LOL
Thanks for the hospital tips -- I really needed that!! :)
HUGS back!

Thanks very much!! I will pray that you get your approval and that the process goes quickly. :) Thanks for the encouragement and support.
Day 7 of the pre-op diet. So far so good -- today was the first time I tried my meal during the day instead of at night, so we'll see. My temptations are usually at home with the kids and hubby. ;)

Hi everyone, my names Linda and I'm 60 years old, happily married, and mother of two grown daughters. I'm grandma to three grandsons, and also have a great grandson whose 7 months old. I live in West Michigan, and retired from Howmet Castings about five years ago.
I'm also pretty new here. Sadly I'm just starting my journey toward weight loss surgery. I went to my first seminar a few years ago, but wasn't quite ready to end my love affair with food.
My BMI is 41 now, and the pain of arthritis on weight bearing joints, tell me to do something "NOW". So far I had my consultation, labs drawn, psychological evaluation, stress test, and I see the nutritionist Monday.
Everything seems to be happening so fast, but I'll still have to diet for six months. I'm very happy to have found this page and look forward to getting to know more of you.

Hey Linda! Welcome to our group here!
Not many members seem to notice the posts in this area. you may consider making a new topic post and introduce yourself, so people see it. You can just copy this one and paste it into a new one. I want you to get a propper welcome!
I think it is pretty common for many of us to toy with this decision for a while before comitting to it. It is a big decision and best not to jump in to prematurely. Congrats on beginning your process. 6 months will fly on by..
I am a wife, mom to 2 grown kids and grandma to 3. almost 44, and had my wls 2 years and 2 months ago. I am now at a normal BMI and can fully enjoy running and playing with those awesome grandbabies! (takes a day or 2 to get rested back up.. but hey...)
Again welcome! I look forward to getting to know you and walking along side of you in this journey.

Welcome Linda, it takes a while for us to find the introductions up here. Feel free to start a thread below for more replies. We are so glad to have you as part of our family. Come to monday evening chat sessions when you can for group sharing and caring. It is a great place to get several opinions on whatever is on your mind.
The 6 month supervised diet seems so long, but in hindsight, the time just flew on by. So has this past year since my surgery. My knees are singing the praises of less of me to carry about. I went from needing a cane part time to walking for miles and even a little jogging with the critters.
Looking forward to getting to know you better too. Hugs

Hi everyone, my name is Kim and I am 44 years old. I live in Colorado with my loving husband of 1 year. I have struggled with my weight since my late teens.
I have wanted to have WLS since the late 90s. My PCP back then referred me to a surgeon but I was told that my insurance would not approve the surgery. The company that I was working for had opted out of the area of the insurance policy that would have covered bariatric surgery. I have recently taken a different job with a company that has included in the insurance policy, a provision that as long as all requirements were met, the surgery would be approved.
I am going to meet with my surgeon tomorrow, Sept. 21st for the first time. My PCP is helping with getting to where I need to be to get my pre approval. It looks like it’s going to be about 6 months to get my approval. I’m so excited. I am very close to having to use a wheelchair. My knees were both injured in middle and high school. The pain can be so bad that it is almost impossible to do the simplest of daily tasks. I was told that the only thing that can be done for my knees is to have total knee replacements.
I have been diagnosed with diabetes back in 2008. I was at first having to endure insulin shots but have been changed to oral medications. I also have mild asthma that gets worse with exertion. I have in the last couple years also started having trouble with high blood pressure, and most likely have sleep apnea. I am just waiting to hear back from my pulmonologist’s office with the date of my sleep study.
I am excited that I found a place where I can get encouragement and support from others going through the same things that I am. I look forward to making new friends and sharing my journey along the way.

Hello Kim and welcome to our group! I too am 44 years old and living in Colorado.
I wish you the best of luck in the journey you are embarking on. I do hope they approve you and you will not be bound to a wheel chair.
The knee replacement surgeries will be so much more effective for you if you can get the weight off.
Ask any questions you may have and keep us posted on your progress through the hoops!
You may want to post this intro in a new topic, as i think many do not notice the posts here in this section. I want you to get a nice welcome and for others to notice your intro so they too can welcome you to our little family here.
