Bariatric Buddy
Welcome!
I am scheduled to have my RNY on August 26th in Denver at Swedish Medical Center. The long wait is just about over. I have been fighting the insurance companies for 10 years trying to get the surgery. This was going to be my last battle with the all mighty insurance gods. I have had a battle with my weight as long as I can remember. My Mom started putting me on diets back at the tender age of 5! And it has been a jiant yo-yo ride since then. Now I am ready to get off that nasty ride! Though my Mom is not here to see me win my battle with my weight, she will be my guardian angel durning my surgery.
I will have my trusty lap top with me during my stay in the hospital to give updates, and my friend can post updates for me during my stay.
Congrats on winning the insurance battle finally! You are almost there now! I'm so happy for you!
And definately do keep us posted!

EXPERIENCE WITHOUT REFLECTION IS HOLLOW
Hello,
My name is Jenn and I was recently refered ( recommended) to see a bariatric surgeon. I live in Rochester, NY. I am 39 years old and have been losing the battle of the budge since I was 15 years old. I have not even been to see the surgeon yet, I have an appointment with her on Aug 27th. I was told to bring a support person so I am bringing my Mom. I'm Not sure how much support she will be as she has always been critical of me all of my life. But about 6 or 7 months ago she offered to have a lap band done for me and I told her no. I didn't want her having the expense on her credit card. But now that a doctor has recommended this to me and he has said that he will write letters of medical necessity for the surgery .. which he thinks that the gastric by pass would be good because it helps you in 2 ways. I have moderate to severe arthritis in my knees and unexplained swelling of my feet . The osteo doctor that recommended this says that he cannot even consider surgery until my BMI is below 40.
Boy I am telling you my life story here .. :-)
Anyways, I looked up alot of information thru OH and have gotten information about the diet restrictions and requirements.
Thanks for reading my post,
Jenn
Hugs!

EXPERIENCE WITHOUT REFLECTION IS HOLLOW
Deciding between the lapband and gastric bypass is tough. I spent the first year planning for the lapband and then changed my mind around the time I finished my doctor supervised weight-loss plan. My reasons for changing to the gastric bypass were related to the condition of my body - particularly my lower back and knees. I am hoping to drop weight quickly so that I can become active quickly. Plus, my BMI is hovering around 60 and the surgeon says that most people in that range do the best long-term with the bypass. So, that's what I am doing - on Sept. 14th!
I don't mean to be nosey ... wait, yes I do (LOL!) ... but do you have anyone else that you think can be your support person? Adapting a whole new lifestyle after surgery is gonna be rough. I really think you should have someone that will provide you support 100% of the time.
Anyway, I wish you the very best and look forward to learning more about you! Take care!
