Welcome to the family Kerrie, I will post this in a thread below, some miss this welcome thread. I wish I had had my surgery at your age, life would have been sooooo different. You will get much needed support here, just post and share and let the getting to know others begin. How far into the pre-op time are you? Anything I can do to help navigate OH?
Come share often and enjoy the perks. Hugs

kerry, i picked up on the fact that u posted here when kathy did a thread about you. kathy is really good about that.
sounds llike you have done a lot of research. you should be pround of yourself. making informed decisions is very important.
myself, i had the rny, mainly because medicare only paid for that or the lap band. even then you had to make some major qualifying factors.
let me know if i can do anything to help you. vick

EXPERIENCE WITHOUT REFLECTION IS HOLLOW
Thank you! I tried to research every possible option and then talked to a doctor about all of them and how they would work for me specifically and then make a choice. Which is how me and my doctor both agreed on the Sleeve.
I am just worried about the actually surgery but very excited for afterwards!! :)
My best friend is getting bypass about the same time I am gettting sleeve and then my other good friend is getting a revision from lap band to sleeve about the same time as well so were going through it together which is easier but everyone lives far from me... its sad lol.
I think the hardest part and the reason I joined this group is because I moved here recently and I am all alone here, which makes it hard because im always at home that sort of stuff... so I figured if I had more friends online it would make things easier....
Anyways that was longer than expected but thank you again!!

A great big welcome to our group Kerrie(sp?). I too wish i had done my wls much sooner than I had. I had kicked it around for about 5 years. Had I done it that 5 years sooner I'd have had 35 less to take off and had many more happier healthier years. But i am thankful I did it.
You are never along when you are a bariatric buddy! We are here for you, and you will be here for us as well. It is a bit intimidating, but at your wonderfully young age, you will probably get through the procedure with flying colors!
As far as where to go after making the decision.. find a wls surgeon you feel good about and make sure they are a center for excellence in bariatric surgery, or likely insurance won't cover them, and they are not as skilled. They then will walk you through what comes next amd submitting for insurance approval , etc.
It sounds like you have a date set tho? You mentioned your friends are having procedures about the same time. So maybe you have already done the above and gotten insurance approval?
Anywho.. we are here for you. post any questions, concerns, joys, whatever! i look forward to traveling this journey with you.
I am 43, a Mom of 2 grown kids, grammy of 2, with another soon to arrive, married for 11 years now, and have a few fur babies too. I had RNY July 21st 2008. Down 116 lbs. was 270, now 154. Was in a tight 24 pant, now in a comfy 8.You can see before and afters on my profile page under photo's if you feel like taking a peek.
