New here - Hello!
Hello,
I am new to this group yet not new to OH. I had lap RNY done October 31/2011. I was 272 lbs and reached my goal of 150 lbs about four months ago. I am happy at the weight I am, but I worry about the dreaded bounce back so would be even happier if I made it to 140 lbs before the malabsorption of calories ends. Being just over 17 months out, I know that day is coming soon.
I have always been able to eat almost anything and I have never really dumped. I can get the odd upset stomach, but that is about it. For the last month or so, I have been into grazing. It seems that I am always hungry, or bored, or hungry. Most likely thirsty more than hungry. I have never been a great drinker, even before my surgery. I have no difficulty drinking liquids of any temperature and stick mostly to water, herbal tea and flavoured SF waters (Mio, Crystal Light etc...). Why is it so hard for me to drink adequate amounts? I have water bottles with me all the time, and I truly just don't think to drink more. Wish I was this way with food! Chocolate and sweets are making their way back onto my diet. Not in huge amounts but they are there. Easter was horrible. Refined carbs are also making their way back in. Cookies and the odd time Doritos. It scares me because I KNOW this is not good for me, yet I still snack. Get it out of the house, I say. Somehow it manages to get in my house. I have school aged kids, no excuse, I know. I have been lucky so far with not gaining (or losing) for that matter, but I know the day is going to come when I step on that scale and it moves in the wrong direction. So I am here to learn and yes to get my butt kicked from time to time as well. Thanks! Giselle
Hi Giselle!! It sounds like you're doing fantastic. I can understand why you'd want to reign in the carb monster before it becomes a problem. I really don't have a great suggestion for getting more liquids in...it sounds like you've made a habit of keeping them handy. Remember to try and not start drinking with your meals again. Follow that 30 minute before and after guideline. Stick with the protein first motto and then TRY to avoid the urge to indulge the sweet tooth. Some folks can handle a bite here and there-----I'm not one of them. I know that the cookies are my "gateway drug". I crave them and then they lead to more mindless eating. Good Luck to you!!

Hi! I just joined, myself. You lost a lot of weight!
It seems to me that if we are lucky enough to have a limit on our refined carb consumption, we can indulge once in a while. But if the food police aren't there, we have to Just Say No...for as long as we can hold out.
My weight loss stopped soon after surgery; I hope to force it to get going again.
I'll kick your butt if you'll kick mine.
Hi Giselle:
Congratulations on your awesome weight lost! You are very smart to check out the board and find out what not to do before it becomes a problem for you. Doritos and I are now mortal enemies. I have met with him over the years and I have never walked away a winner. We do not speak anymore. I confess, I am a chocolate-holic, I love chocolate. I substitute my love of chocolate candy for chocolate protein bars so I can get a steady fix of chocolate everyday. You still have room to drop some more weight if you will go back to the basic rules of our surgery. Take advantage now so that if you have a bounce back it will not be so bad for you. Good luck on your continued journey.
