 Hello all,

i had gastric bypass rny august 2008, i was 320 at heaviest pre surgery weight 291. Well during the first few months sugar was no friend of mine massive dumping... as i went on come to find out i am allergic to artifical sweetners ( anaphalxis shock) how do i get my self away from sugars again? when white refined sugar is so easy to do so convient. tried the organic brown sugar doesnt give it that sweetness.

I hate that i am alergic to artifical sweetners but i cant chew benadryl all my life... Any one else going through this how do you cope or deal or get rid of the proverbial sweet  tooth.

Sending you a (((hug))).  Sorry for your sugar issues.  I don't really have a solution for not eating sugar because I get my sugar fixture through Splenda which definitely would not help you.

Big Hug...I cannot begin to fathom what life would be like if i had no sweets, I am a splenda addict...Don't know if its even an option, perhaps doctor specializing in allergic reactions could give some ideas with SO many artifical sugars out there, perhaps it is thechemical blend that causes your reaction and there is some type you can use and not go into shock , there are quite a few lesser known beside Splenda, Asparteme & saccarin - Malatol, Isomalt, Erythritol & others...How about Stevia (market name :Truvia) is it all natural (plant based)...

I also developed allergies to Splenda. Not to that extent - but I do try to avoid it as much as I can.
I use truvia and stevia. In almost anything. There are natural (no splenda or other artificial sweeteners, or flavoring) protein powders, protein bars, and other snacks.
IF yo can use Sugar Alcohols - there are a lot of foods - sweets with that.

I can use very little SA - or I end up with excessive gas, (and gas pains) or in worse case - runs.
But one of them - erytritol - can be used and it does cause some gas but not as much as others.

i.e. About time whey - all natural whey proteins
MRM - natural - (chocolate and vanilla) - don't use artificial sweeteners

also protein bars:
quest protein bar (natural line)
Power Crunch (most of them do not contain artificial sweeteners)
and so on...

flavored drinks: (natural)
Sobe 0 water
Vitamin Zero water.

There is more and more product that use natural sweeteners.
And so on.  It can be done... items are all around you. Google, check local health food stores, read labels.

What HB said..... Splenda caused me tons of problems. I use Truvia or other Stevia brands.

Maybe you could try Stevia indeed, all natural (be sure it is not mixed with other stuff, read the labels)

also: alternatives which do not spike blood sugars nearly as much as refined sugar are agave syrup, maple syrup (agave is quite low on the GI index)

Good luck!
