Sweetener Suggestions?

It seems like I've tried all of the major sugar substitutes known to man and I can taste the 'artificial' in my drinks and sometimes foods that they are used in.

So far I've tried:
Sweet n Low
Splenda
Stevia
Truvia

None of them upset my stomach, but the flavor is barely tolerable.

Can anyone suggest something that sweetens and either has no flavor at all or doesnt have that artificial aftertaste?

Thanks!

It is an aquired taste.  Eventually - you will get use to it. I use stevia - or truvia...

I'm going to have to disagree on eventually getting used to it.  I've been trying various sweeteners for 10+ years and I just cant seem to get around that artificial aftertaste.
I got pretty jazzed when the Stevia and Truvias came out, thinking they'd be closer to a sugar flavor (or flavorless), but .....here we are.

Well... I guess I am lucky that way. Can't really take the Splenda or the NutraSweet.

But I have been using Stevia for at least 15 years now... And now- even thought that does not taste like sugar - it takes an edge of coffee and adds a little flavor to my shakes and my baking.

My BF hates all artificial sweeteners or stevia based - so he does never eat my stuff. An rare occasions when I do get some diet soda - and I want to be sure I did not get the real sugar - he can taste the chemicals - and I know it is safe for me to drink.

But then I can't have much sugar since my RNY - and not only I am dumper, but I also developed severe RH and even if i do not dump - the low Blood sugar will get me any time I have more than 4-5 gr of sugar and more than 15 gr of starchy carbs

have you tried Erythritol? It is a SA, 0 calorie sweetener. It is suppose to cause the least gastro - issues, since it is absorbed by us and then cleared by kidneys. I can use some (can't  use most other SA - severe gas and pain)

When used - the erythritol creates very cooling effect in the mouth.  Can be bought in most health food stores or on line.   Ther ei salso lo-han  new kid on the block.  There are some new coming...

Hi HB,

The dumping took that comes with RNY is a blessing and a curse, isnt it.  I'm a lot like your BF in that I can taste the chemical flavor of the artificial sweeteners.

I've never heard of Erythritol.  I'll definitely have to look it up.

Thanks!

Sorry, no help here.  I am actually moving away from artifical sweeters as of this afternoon...more so no longer added to my coffee which is the only time I add.  I am ok with what's every in my Crystal light.

If you find one that works for you please share.

Thanks Wanda, I will.

I may have to just take the caloric hit and use raw sugar (15 cal, 4g carbs).

Athough I avoid all sweetners like the plague, I do need something to sweeten my coffee. After a lot of trial and error I've settled on a combination that works for me: 2/3 Stevia (in tsp equivalent) and 1/3 Splenda. Maybe you should experiment a bit.

Thanks Amalia!  I'll try that alongside a couple of other experiments.
There's got to be SOMEthing that works for me.

I use Sweetzfree. It's pure sucralose. No carbs. No maltodextrin. No fillers. I like the taste and it's very easy to use even in cold drinks since it's liquid. I sound like a commercial, lol. I just really love this stuff. You can find it at sweetzfree.com if you're interested. The guest book comments will give you an idea of how much people love this stuff.
