Sugar addiction-how to break it?
I need to break my sugar addiction. I've pretty much broken my carb addiction except for potatoes, at dinner(only) and popcorn. The sugar(candy) is killing me. With the carbs it was easier to go cold turkey but it isn't happening with the sugar. There is sugar in damn neat everything! I will eat my favorite candies instead of anything else. I can easily skip meals and just live on the sugar. This has to stop for a lot of reasons.
How many grams of sugar a day should I shoot for? What foods have sugar that I might not think of?
Is the natural sugar in fruits a trigger also? Maybe I should eliminate fruit until I get this under control?
Any suggestions?

I don't know about how many grams to shoot for but I can tell you 1 Banana and I'll eat the whole stalk! I say get up in the morning and decide NO ADDED SUGAR. If it's in the vegetable naturally so be it. None in your coffee, no candy unless it's sugar free. Check the diabetic food aisle. Be careful there as well though. READ those labels!

Honestly, the best way to kick the sugar and the carbs is to detox your system. The "5 day pouch test" personally is the best way to do this.
It took me 3 trys to get completely through the full 5 days.Started over each time I slipped off the diet back to day one. I was a bag of Jelly Beans a day eatter...I would eat Jelly Beans all day and I was drinking way to much coffee. Over the past 2 weeks I've put my hads on a bag of Jelly Beans and have been successful both times by walking away.
I had the RNY back in 2000 and had gained over 44 pounds over my projected weight. It's been 2 months that I've been back on track and has lost 14 pounds. I watch my calories stay within 1100/1200 and my proteins are any where from 96 to 134 per day. Water after every meal. I created a execl spread sheet for myself to track my food and my workout as well as my water intake.
I hope it helps. I don't post often, I am a lurker...check in everyday to see who's doing what.

Watch for SF items... they still may have a lot of SA and some people are sensitive to them more than others. Also- the SF stuff - with splenda or otehr no SA sweeteners - may also promote sweet tooth and trigger overeating... (soda does that for me)
Keep a journal and report not only what yo ate but how you felt (cravings, feeling tired - needed pick me up etc) so you can determine what triggers your overeating ( really hard stress at work does that to me, soda).

What worked for ME!! I tossed it ALL out every last candy I had. I now have my favorite protein bar (made by Lindora) which I ONLY have in an emergency, like there are donuts and I REALLY REALLY want one. I'm break out my Lindora bar with a nice cup of coffee and I'm in heaven. I also occassionally have fruit in my diet and right now I'm working on losing my regain so I limit my total carbs to under 75g, aiming for under 50g, but right now 75g is working and I don't feel deprived. Today my "sugar" consisted of 1/4 cup of crushed pineapple in my 1/2 cup of cottage cheese.
If I were you for NOW I would take out ALL sugar and replace with a nice piece of fruit a day. Take the fruit (apples and/or oranges are my fav) and cut them up and eat throughout the day or eat during your trigger time (mine is 10am and 3pm, mostly 3pm).

Hey thanks for asking!! I'm still hanging in there. It really is a moment by moment decision. It's really hard sometimes. Today I was walking by the cupboard and a piece of chocolate reached out and grabbed me by the neck. Only one piece though. Iknow, I should through it out but I can't yet. It's kind of like a crutch that I know it's there if I'm dying. There are only 4 pieces left anyhow.
Thanks again for everyones support! It really does help.
