Starting the Psot Op diet again, need encouragement.

i want to start the post op diet again.  I need to loose some more weight kinda fast.  In 2002 I had RnY and went from 405 to 240.  I am back up to 270 due to some depression and Wellbutrin.  I did not follow th diet very closely after surgery leavingout the calcioum and now have thinning hip and lower back bones and am not taking a once a month osteoposi drug.   I am having a great deal of trouble with the belly apron causing skin and lower back problems and have an appointment to see a surgeon in early March.  I'm homping for surgery in late April and want to get off as much as I can before then.  I know it's going to be tough but i reallly need to do it.  Major problem is I've become a grazer.  Getting back to three or 4 protien drinks a day is going to be tough as is working in the exercise I need.  I could really use some support and encouragement.

Hi Amy:

Good to have you here, from one grazer to another.  You do not have to do all protein shakes unless you want to.  I do one in the morning and have a couple of protein bars for lunch and snack.  I always try to have a lean protein meat or meat substitute and green vegetable for dinner, a little cheese, carb smart crackers and a fruit for snack.  If you can decarb yourself off the white carbs, you will be amazed at how much weight you can lose and how much better you will feel.  I do not have any pasta, white bread, starches, or sweets.  I take all my vitamins, drink my fluids and walk.  Even if you only walk for 10 minutes twice a day, it will really improve your weight loss.  Also, I journal every day.  I find that writing it down makes me think twice before I eat something that I really shouldn't.  When I first started, my calories ranged from 700-800 a day now they are 1000-1100.  My proteins started at 80-90 grams and now they range from 90-110 grams a day.

You can do this, even if you only make one change each day.  Come back here for support everyday.  We are here to help you and just listen if you need to talk something out.  I know you will be so happy to have your apron removed.  I have been looking into plastics myself and one thing that I have noticed that all the surgeons want you to really have your proteins up and all your labs good.  Have you had your labs done lately to see how your vitamins regiment is doing for you?  Extra protein promotes quicker healing also.  I hope I haven't talked your ear off.  Good luck with your weight loss.

Hi Amy!!

You have come to the right place!  And I am right there with you as far as the weight gain and not eating the way I should.  I just did the 5-Day Pouch test and, while it helped a LOT, I still want carbs...a LOT!  But, for some reason, doing the test made me NOT eat them.  Well, mostly. ;)

I 100% recommend the test.  And I would recommend posting your daily progess...it helped me to feel accountable.

I am a grazer, too, by nature...and it had gotten to the point where I was eating pretty much all day.  Some pretzels here...Goldfish crackers there...it was getting out of hand.  Hence MY 40-lb weight gain (happily it is down to 30 now).

Even if you find you cannot do the test, at least up your protein and do some kind of exercise a day.  Even if it is dancing around a little (which is what I do).

Good luck, Amy!!

I am so glad that I'm not alone on this journey!  I was 340 pounds and lost 165 pounds 9 years ago.  I thought I was doing fine until this Sept.  I was under stress and lost total control.  I gained 35 pounds back and I am not happy.

PLEASE HELP!  Not sure what to do.  You mentioned a 5 day pouch test?  What kind of testis that?  I am out of my  mind over this weight gain.  My jeans are tight and I am so uncomfortable.

Is there a diet that is available that I can follow?  I just joined the YMCA so that I can do some type of  exercise.  I also made an appointment with my surgeon to see what he recommends.

Any kind of advise is appreciated!

Happy Valentines Day to all!

Hi Cathy:

You can google the five day pouch test and it will give you the link to the site.  I have done it twice to get back on track and it really works.  See above answer on what I have been doing personally.  Good to have you here on the site.

For me, the fastest way is total low carb, Atkins induction style. That works fast however, I have a hard time sticking to it.

Im a grazer too, which makes 3 meals difficult for me so I try to have 4 and a snack. Im doing Weigh****chers Points Plus, and my husband is doing it with me which makes it MUCH easier. Im down 6 pounds in two weeks so far. Darn husband is down 22...but pay no attention to the male! Im working out 5 days a week. Zumba and Gym which consists of 25-30 minutes on the elliptical followed by strength training.

It has taken me 3 months of 'trying' to get with the program before my switch REALLY flipped to the on position.

Good luck to you! You've got this!

Hey there!

It is so funny...that is the EXACT term I use...the "switch".  It is as if there is a literal switch in my brain.  I struggle to try and flip the switch but the damn thing stays stuck most of the time. Then, one day, it just flips itself and I can finally get control.  I wonder what the heck is really going on in this brain of mine!

How do you do WW as a post-op?  Does it work well?  I keep considering it but I have yet to try it out...

Have a great day!

Hey!

Im pretty much doing WW as a post op the same as I did pre op, except Im using my points on protein and making sure I supplement with shakes and bars.

When I tried WW pre op, I would use points on more carby foods, now Im counting shakes and bars.

I havent officially joined. I have been able to find a plethora of information and counters free online and via android apps, thanks to a wonderful fellow OH'er and friend. I even found one of the 'common food points' books scanned online. After we started we found out my MIL had joined and I was able to look thru her books. If you are interested, I can share links!!

Basically, since they changed to the new Points Plus program, most foods have gone up in points value, but the majority of fruits and veggies are free!!  I find that if Im really having the URGE to eat, I just grab a piece of fruit so I never feel deprived. I can eat something whenever I want.

Good luck. As the ladies said - going low carbs works. Limits appetite, so it is easier to stick with the plan. Eating on a clock, vs when hungry works for me. If I eat when really hungry - it is either due to low blood sugar (if I do not eat for more than 4 hrs) or I just eat too much and have a hard time stop eating after I have my pre-measured meal.

Low carb - does not need to be boring... Low carb - also means low net carbs - we do need the fiber... So any non-starchy veggies - are really almost "free food"  (unless you worry about the gas...lol) Green lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, celery cucumbers, pickles, etc. are virtually free food.
Then there is the lean meat, fish and eggs and egg whites.
