 Hello...
Protien coffee is a beautiful thing! I brew my coffee then I put a scoop of chocolate flavor powder in my cup then pour in the coffee while I stir. If your coffee pot makes very hot coffee let it cool a bit because  the powder can curdle :( you'll know if it did because it will all float on the top. Yuck! Make sure u use a powder that you like. If it tastes like butt plain it will probably taste like butt in coffee :) enjoy!!

Thank-you so much for responding. I am on day 2  today. I put strawberries and frozen blueberries in my whey protein shake powder with my greek plain yogurt or stoneybrook yogurt plain along with flaxseed. Is that OK?

How are you doing thus far since you did the 5 day pouch test.?

I need to be more disciplined, and I hope & pray this works. Thus far, I have written down everything I eat, and keep with the journal. As you know, I am a compulsive overeater, and I am being serious with this 5 day pouch test.. My problem I was having,  I was grazing after supper, and eating in between meals. I need to sip on my water. in between meals & get my water in to equal 64 oz per day.

Can I also use protein coffee as a meal with the protein powder in it, even if I have 2 cups, and equal 26 grams of protein with Whey Protein?

I am doing my best to concentrate to get the extra weight I put on, I put on the 24 lbs. I am going to do my best to go to my Staying on Track class come this coming Wednesday, @ Nutrition & Diabetes Center in Bangor.

Thank-you for your time, it means so much.

Hello...
I got on the scale this morning and I am down 2 lbs since Tuesday, which was day 3 of my pouch test. I feel very good and I haven't had any cravings.  I have been tracking my calories on Livestrong/Myplate and it helps too.  One thing I would recommend with the shake would be to not use both the yogurt and the protien powder at one time.  It makes the calories count go up faster. Unless you add the yogurt for thickness, I would omit it and either eat it later alone or have another shake with just the fruit and yogurt. I don't think you really need both in there. That's just my opinion.  On the day I had alot of fruit (in one smoothie and in one homemade juice) my calories were higher than any other day on the program.

As far as the coffee goes, I usually have mine right when I get up then I wait 30 minutes or so and then eat my bfast.  Shakes don't fill me up. I eat them mostly because I need the protien.

As far as the emotional eating, I highly recommend "The Solution" by Laurel Mellin. You can get a copy for about $5 w/shipping on half.com or amazon.com. It really looks at the core of why we eat. She believes that we eat because we are so filled with distress that going inside ourselves is no longer safe so we look for external solutions to ease our pain and distress.  She says that if we can learn to deal with the distress we can gain control over our weight problem.  It makes alot of sense.  Check it out.

Good luck!! You are on the right track! This group has really helped to focus me! Gotta go, coffee is ready :)

I like my coffee more fru-fru & this method lets you mix without curdle of the protein...

1/2 scoop protein powder (use inspire which has 30 in a full scoop, so one cup 15g+ & enjoy cinnamon, caramel or chocolate flavors but you can use no flavor if that is your preference)
1 tbsp sf creamer (your flavor choice) -refrigerator cold
1/8 cup non-fat milk - refrigerator cold
sweetener if you like ( I use splenda)

stir the protein powder with the creamer in your cup until its thick an smooth, add other ingredients if you want them & stir again until smooth then mix in coffee (it can be as hot as just brewed)...The trick for this smooth coffee is that everything is mixed cold before adding the coffee, if you still want it hotter after you have added the coffee it is ok to micro for about 20 secs with no ill after affects

Another way when I need portable for travel is to add the liquid protein drink Oh Yeah, it is also in a number of flavors so you have to want flavor coffee that is more like a latte for this to taste good...They have vanilla, choc, cookies-n-cream (like this one)...Just add to your coffee like milk, as much as you like, more will equal greater cafe au lait taste...

You are right about the cold ingredents first. I forgot that step :) I mix a little bit of milk with my powder then add the coffee. Thanks for explaining that :)

I drink my coffee STRONG, like espresso strong, so I make about 12 oz or so of that.  Then I use about a half scoop of unflavored protein powder (I imagine chocolate or vanilla would also be good) with 1/4 cup of milk.  I have a small shaker bottle that I use to mix, but I imagine you could mix them with a spoon.  My method makes it froth a little, so I when I add it to my coffee (with some Splenda), it kind of resembles a cappuccino.  By the way, I use a half scoop, but if you wanted to up the protein to a whole scoop, I'm sure that would work fine.

I forgot to mention: If you are worried about the milk cooling your coffee too much, try microwaving the coffee for 30 seconds or so, and it will be good and hot.  Then when you add the milk/protein powder mix, it will be a perfect temp.

Just to add...
I keep a tea strainer handy if my protein coffee does curdle.
Strains out the gross lumps and I'm good to go!
