Back On Track Together
New to group...
Hi there, I'm very excited to have found this group! I had my rny in July of 2009, and it has gone very well for me. I had a quick recovery and lost about 112 pounds. Unfortunately, with a recent move and many life changes, my eating habits have taken an ugly turn and I have gained about 25 pounds. It has really been bothering me. Also, most of my clothes don't fit. It's not good, so my boyfirend (who has gained about 40 pounds, he's not a gastric sugery patient) are trying to get back on track. I checked in with the PCP and got bloodwork done. I found out my ferratin is low and I'm Vitamin D deficient. I'm getting back on track with supplements (I was very lax with the iron) and added Vitamin D to my regiment. I'm changing my anti-anxiety meds as well. I'm hoping these changes will boost my energy because I have none for exercise. In the meantime, I am shocking my system back from carb-a-palooza with the 5 day pouch test. I feel new resolve and hope from taking charge and making positive changes, but I've had a headache for 3 days now that Tylenol barely touches and yesterday, I had a pretty bad "edgy" feeling. I really hope that I can start feeling better soon and get back into the exercise routine. In the meantime, I lost 3 pounds!
Have any of you done the 5 day pouch test? I'm on day 3.

Welcome!!
I did the Pouch Test once and it worked miracles for getting rid of the carb addiction. Definitely good for moments when you feel out of control. The carb cravings will go away if you stay away from them. This last time I de-carbed, it took me 5 days to feel better, but when I did, it was overwhelming. I feel like I was carrying a couch on my shoulders all day before.
if you feel you have no energy for cardio, may I suggest trying your hand at something like Pilates. I´m doing simple excercises out of a book and it´s helped my energy levels in just 5 sessions. I´m not kidding it´s amazing. The more times i do it, the more I want to continue trying new excercises. And it made me actually WANT TO go for a swim this past saturday and sunday.
Good luck. Kuddos for stopping the spiral!!
Good job.

Welcome aboard. I think many of us have done the 5 day test at least once or twice...but it is an excellent way to decarb and start fresh again. And, your energy will pick up too. Just keep your proteins up and your carbs down, journal what you eat, don't take in too many calories and take an afternoon or evening walk a couple of days a wee****il you feel like doing more. You will have that 25 lbs. knock off before you know it. Come and post on the daily cardio and cafe, we love to see you daily.
I do not think they specify that.
The 5DTP is suppose to help you "to Feel" the pouch and to help it "shrink".
the decarbing - is good for us... when you do that - I would suggest that you make sure that no meal is just carbs... and every meal has at least 2 x of proteins than net carbs (no counting fiber). But when I decarb - I try to keep that ratio 4;1 (protein to net carbs - or sugars).
But I do not count any carbs in green - non starchy veggies (cabbage, lettuce, celery, cucumber, pickles). but do count carbs in any fruit - starchy veggies, or grains, and and dairy.
i.e. my plan calls for 120 gr of proteins - 60 gr carbs (net 40) - min 20 gr fiber... and no more than 10 gr sugar... rest calories - from good fats (coconut, butter, olive oil, cream, nuts)
