Wanted to say hello

I just wanted to say hello. I am so glad I found this group.  I haven't been on this site for quite a while.  I had my surgery in July 2009 and had great success.  Went from 334 (298 at surgery) to 178 in about a year.  Over the last year (especially the last 6 months) I have gained about 30 pounds.  I have been so disappointed in myself. I tried WW last summer but didn't stick with it very long.  I had basically stopped following all of the rules. I started eating lots of carbs and sugar, stopped watching my protien, drinking with meals, stopped exercising. I pretty much went back to all of my old eating habits.  If you had asked me two years ago if I would ever go back to my old ways I would have told you hell no! But life happens and since I hadn't changed my emotional connection to food I slipped off track.  It didn't help that my sister had RNY in the summer and has lost 100 lbs since then.  Instead of being happy for her I am green with envy and it made me even more depressed.  The last few weeks I have very obsessed with my weight and I have been feeling sorry for myself.  I thought about becoming vegan and even looked at some pro-anorexia websites, wishing I had the self-control for that.  But I quickly realized that extreme thinking was part of my problem and why I was sabotaging myself.  I bought Laurel Mellin's The Solution and I have been reading it. I really need to deal with the emotional part of my weight problem as well as get back on track with the post-op lifestyle.  I am doing the 5-day pouch test to reset my body and am reading The Solution to reset my brain.  I really depended on OH when I was losing post op so I am glad to be back. I look forward to getting to know you guys. Have a great day!

Hi Kristen:

Glad you found us.  I know regain can be really depressing.  I have been there and can now happily report that I am back where I was.  I had a regain of 70 lbs. and I have lost 68 lbs. of it since May 2011.  I went back to basics like when we were newbies.  I cut my calories to 800 a day, my protein up to 80-90 grams a day, my carbs below 100 net grams and started walking everyday, 7 days a week.  I also journal everyday.  Anything that goes in my mouth, go in my journal, I OWN IT.  You can turn your 30 lbs. around and loose that regain along with any other weight you want to.  Rejoice with your sister and pretend you just had surgery too.  You can meet your goal the same time she is meeting hers.  Our pouch never stops working for us, we just stop working our pouch.  Come here daily and post your food and cardio.  We are here for you with all the good and all the bad that happens along the way.  We do not judge and you will get plenty of support.  Welcome aboard.

Thank you so much for the welcome :) I started tracking my food on livestrong.com. I don't know how you only eat 800 calories! On my liquid diet I am already at 1000 and I haven't had dinner :( I have a question about the carbs. Do you count fruit toward that carb count?  I noticed that the fruit juice I made earlier and the strawberries I put into my smoothie bumped me up alot.  I really hate having to watch everything I eat but by not doing it I ended up in the place I am.  I haven't done it in so long I think I forgot how quickly calories can add up. Especially when you drink them (I have a wicked starbucks addiction!). Thanks again for the support!

I do count all my carbs but I take away all my fiber so that I am working with net carbs only.  I try to keep my net carbs between 50-100 grams a day.  I keep up with my foods on fitpal.com and today my net carbs are:  52 and my proteins are:  108 grams.  This is awesome day for me but normally my counts on carbs usually range around 70-80 and protein around 88.  My calories today were 1150 and exercise was 662 calories burn so my net calories for today is 488.  Normally, my calories run around 1050 and exercise is around 500 per day so net calories would be around 550.  I eat more now because I exercise a lot more.  When I was eating 800 calories a day, I was burning 200 calories a day with a net calorie of 600 a day.  I hope this will help you.  Look at my eats and you will see what I ate today.

Thank you for the explaination! I'll have to look at my day on Livestrong.com and see what my net carbs were today. I'm excited to eat some food tomorrow! I'm hungry :)
