Hi all and thank you for granting membership to your group.  I have been lurking for a few months and discovered the 5dpt on one of these boards. Today is my first day. Is any one else on it? I'm a bandster from july of '09 and lost about 40lbs to begin with then began to go up up up. Then I started to research "getting back on track" and discovered I wasn't the only one out there. Thank god for support groups, like this one! Let me know if anyone wants to join me in the 5dpt www.5daypouchtest.com  Even though I dont post often I love reading and lurking. It's very motivational! Thank you!!

Glad to have you here.  I did the 5 day pouch test back about 8 months ago to detox off of carbs and get started back to basics.  A lot of people just start back doing the basic which is high protein, low carb, no drinking 30 minutes after meals, reducing calorie intake and upping exercise.  Good luck to you and Welcome.

Thank you! I forgot to mention I did join a gym also.  When I was seeing the doctor for fills and check ups the nurse would always tell me to eat no more than 2-3 meals a day and no snacking.  Of course she would always say no drinking anything1 hour before and 1 hour after a meal. Is this the general consensus with most lap band patients??? I have read some bandsters say they eat several small meals a day.  Is one hour about the average for not drinking before or after? I read some bandsters say 30mins but if I wait longer is that better or worse. Any input from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

First of all Welcome! I did not have the band but RNY we don't drink 30 minutes prior or after a meal this I was told it helps the food stay in your stomach longer so you feel fuller.  I have gained about 15lbs and I knew I wouldn't stick with the 5 day pouch test but I went on Atkins and so far so good.  I also bought a treadmill and have started using.

Best of luck, Raynetta

I feel good today. I have read different stories about how the 5dpt makes you feel but so far no issues. When I get hungry I have a shake or some soup or water. It helps that I was prepared with protein and soup.  Thanks for all that commented. So far I weigh 4 pounds less than yesterday!! I am sure it's a lot of water b/c I have been peeing like crazy. I'm sure this will help with any swelling I have been having in my legs and feet too.  Thank you all for your support!!

ok, update...I finished the 5dpt and what a wonderful test to remind us of our tool.  I feel restriction, I was rarely hungry and I lost 7lbs! I feel restriction again and it feels wonderful. I reminded myself to not drink 30 before, during or 30 after. I followed it to a Teeeeeee. I am glad I did it! My habits have been broken, my cravings are non-existent and mostly the lap band still works!
I feel a new found love for my lap band. I'm treating it like my child, my 4th child. I had mistreated it for so long and now I feel bad and I feel like I have to care for it and respect it.  Thanks for listening and thanks for all the supportive words!
