The "power" of the scale...

Good morning all,
Had a quick question for you: How often do you weigh yourself? Also, does the number on the scale affect your mood/disposition/determination for the rest of the day?
I weigh myself every morning and am embarrassed to say that my mood for the day (sense of failure) is greatly influenced by the number on the scale. No one during my work day knows if the scale read + or - a lb or so. Honestly, I don't think anyone else gives a second thought! So, why does it still grip me after all these years??
Curious to see if others feel the same.
Have a great day!

Good morning to you. I use to weigh everyday and just like you, I let the scale control my mood. Since I started back with the basics, I weigh in every Monday morning. Usually I have a lost or at least maintain. I decided it was just a number and I would not let it have power over me. I have a size 10 pants that I try on every couple of weeks. They actual zipped last time. Yay! You are better than any number that scale shows you. Send it to the corner for a week and see if it doesn't treat you better. Have a great day!

Great advice! Rationally, I know that based on my work-outs and eats from yesterday, there is NO WAY there could be a 2 lbs gain... but the scale doesn't lie (?)
I think from now on, Mondays would be a good day to weigh-in. It will help to be on track over the weekend.
Thanks Tess.

Maybe once every 2 weeks?
I gave up the scale a few months ago. Even now, when BOTTing - I go by my clothes and the way I look and feel, than what the scale shows.
Due to hormones, salt, BM, how much and how well I slept, how much water I drank... my weight can fluctuate 5 lbs in ONE DAY !!!!
But - unless a my belly is really swollen - or had a lot of gas - my clothes fit me or not. The fat on my back is an indicator .... I do need some of it... just not too much.

Viv,
I'm a scale watcher too & yes the # directly affects my mood for the day, at least until I get my clothes on and feel & see visually how bad it really is...
The one period of time that I put the scale away because I THOUGHT I had it all conquered, when I got back on 2 months later, wham 10 lbs, never managed to beat myself back to the original # and now flux from that regain...The scale is back to being my BFF (hey even friends fight right? some days I like it - some days NOT)...

Hi Alesia,
We have a similar story- I put the scale away for awhile because of the way it affected my moods... A month later, 10lbs up, I have been weighing myself daily. Stepping on the scale is what brought me to this site.
Now that I am tracking, maybe once a week will be a safe bet. (I'll try- but old habits die hard!)
