Lost Hope/Please Help
I'm coming on 6 years out from my RYN. People, I don't know what end is up. Three solid years on gain, gain, gain, starting anew daily, weekly monthy, journaling, Dukan, Weigh****chers, 5-Day Pouch, Atkins, exercise, walking, struggling with abssolutly not once ounce of success. I seriously don't know what end is up, where I'm at or what to do next? I can't figure out my plan, everything I try: Fails.... What next? My eating habits are on a seriously run-away train. I just have become bewldered with it all and have lost my way. Please help.
Hi Kathy,
I wish I had an answer for you. All I can say is I do feel your pain for sure. And success is never giving up. We all have to find our way and each of us have a different road or plan to follow. I hope you find your way and a plan for yourself. Just keep seeking help and something will work for you. Much success to you!! Congrats on seeking help too. It is not hopeless.

Hey, Kathy--I know just what you're feeling, as I am also more than six years post-op with a large regain.
I'm eating the proper way (mostly) but definitely not doing myself any favors by not exercising. My
weight gain has exacerbated my knee pain, so as you can imagine, walking is not on my list. I do
enjoy it, but the pain is too much. I'm now old enough for the Medicare Advantage insurance program
and the one I've selected has a gym membership. I'm hoping that getting back into weights training
will be the key.
Also, I'm finding that my overall intake is too high (more than 1500 calories daily) so I'm having to
be stern with myself about using protein first. I'm tracking my intake on sparkpeople.com, but I'm
beginning to wonder if I might not need to be back in Weigh****chers just to ensure I'm staying
within guidelines.
I also just read an article by a prominent surgeon who stated that RNY post-ops regain after
3 years or so simply because the stoma itself simply enlarges to the point that it no longer
provides a restriction. Sigh. If so, this is not going to be easy to fix.
So, onward and upward, er, downward....

I'm only 2 years out so I'm not an expert on this. I too have to battle regain. What I have tried is the Atkins diet. Focus on high protein and low carbs. Make sure you do your waters, vitamins and exercise.
Try to do one day at a time and keep coming back to this web site for support. You can do it. Set small goals for yourself.

"I am almost 6 years out and workignon getting back on track after a few years of gaining. I can exactly say where the problem is, it is me. I was not exercising, not taking my vitamins, not drinking water and no****ching what I am eating. I am about 3 weeks working on getting back on track and have lost about 4 lbs. I know it could be more but I am still fighting old habits. :)
I have been working out for 30 - 40 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Aiming for 1000 - 1400 calories a day with protein, veggies, fruits being the main focus, at least 8 cups water/good fluids, and my vitamin supplements. At my last appt with my surgeon they stressed to me that the lack of supplements is part of the snacking issue as my body is craving those nutrients and trying to get it from foods.
Hope you ar able to find some help and find your path. Don't give up.

Hi Kathy:
I think we have all come upon our weight demons. I know I did, I am 5 1/2 years out. I had a 70 pound weight gain from my lowest weight, I let stress and depression take my eye off the ball and I started eating mindlessly. I came back to this board in May of this year and looked at what all the newbies were doing. I went back to basics. No drinking before or after I eat for 30 minutes. I keep my calories under 1000. My proteins around 90 grams, my carbs under 100, and I walk about hour and 45 minutes each day. In five and half months, I have dropped 50 lbs. I hope I can get the last 20 off by New Year's. I take it one day at a time, so if it takes me longer, that will be okay too. I hope you keep coming back to OH. Posting my food here and on Myfitnesspal.com has really may be stay accountable to my self. Good luck to you.

I am new to the website and just joined "back on track". Your post describes me perfectly! I just finished 3 days of protein shakes and clear liquids, weighed myself and am up a pound?? at any rate, tomorrow is a new day. I have ordered some Unjury and sugar-free flavors (thank you Tess). I am determined to lose the weight I've regained and hopefully one day reach goal. Glad to know I am not alone in this... BTW, my surgery was in 2003.
Hi Kathy,
I'm 11 years out and I'm not sure what it is, but it seems like the "6th year" is when we start with the regaining. I know that's what happened with me. We tend to get lax and forget the "basics" of the program. I also think that a lot of my weight gain was caused by a lot of my psych meds. No matter what I did, I couldn't lose. About 5 months ago, I changed my Psych. I am bi-polar along with PTSD and anxiety disorder. I was diagnoised about 17 years ago, so I think that I've been on every type of med out there. This new Dr. was very informed on how people with gastric bypass, doesn't process meds as do people with regular insides. He was able to get me stable on my meds. I got back on the program and have since lost 35-40 lbs., depending on time of month. So, what I'm basically saying is we still have our "small pouch", we just have to remember that we have to go back to basics and follow the program. You can do this!
Keep on BOTTing!
