Back On Track Together
Introducing Me!
Hi! I am Courtney. Almost 6 years post op Open RNY with a 53 lb weight gain, trying to get myself back on track. I quit smoking & joined the gym 3 months ago but have continued to gain (up another 10 lbs). I am sure it is all related to my food intake. I was perusing the main board and was very excited to find this board.
I am hoping with more focus on vitamins, water, exercise and going back to the basics with food that I will start losing again.

Hi Courtney:
I was in your same boat. I have been back on track almost five months, and have lost 46 pounds of the 70 lbs. that I gain from my goal weight of 155. Starting weight was 306 lbs. I basically went back to the basics. I cut out drinking with meals, got my protein count to at least 90 grams, keep my carbs under 100, keep my calories under 1000 and exercise at least 1 hour a day by walking. I starting walking for 30 minutes in the beginning. I now walk 1 hour in the morning and 45 minutes in the afternoon per day. I started the extra 45 minute walk for our 8 week challenge here. You can do this and the pouch still works. Even if I wanted to eat extra, I have shrunk my stoma or pouch so that I can not consume a 1/3 of what I was consuming when I was gaining. I let a lot of work stress and depression really mess with my head and body and it took me almost 2 years to make it right again. Every day is a new beginning. Don't let one slip up ruin the rest of the day for you. Here is to a new beginning for you.

Glad your here. One step in the right direction can lead to a turn around in your life. Depression seems to be a big concern with a lot of people who have had surgery. I think we just never learned to deal with how we feel and eat to make feelings go away much like an alcoholic drinks way the pain.
It is ok to feel sad, mad or unhappy. Getting comfortable with uncomfortable feelings is a hard job. So far I try to make sure the only foods in the house are good choices so even if I want to over eat I don't do too much damage. Fruit, yogurt, cheese, and nuts become my grazing foods when I am axnious or upset. Now I am working on finding activities to use to replace this eating pattern.

WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME
You and I could be twins. I am 7 years out and had kept it off until my husband had a serious health crisis. I put on over 50 pounds. I got serious in May and lost half of my weight. I am now wanting to get back down to goal and struggling but not giving up.
Finding others to do it with me has helped greatly. Feel free to dump your stress here, ask for help and give yourself kudos for being you. You are allowed to fail here without judgment. We do ask you read the docs we have and get back to the basics. Be accountable with your food, working out and deal with the emotion/stress that is making you eat.
We are excited to have you here as part of our BOTT family.
Take care,
Kathy
